soooooo as you know, buttons is very picky about the toys he plays with its very hard to find a toy he likes, and when he finds one, its fun for about five minutes. for about the past week, he has developed a habit of licking the flooring of his cage(which is cardboard).  it seems to be pretty excessive to me. he always has hay, so this will help the bordem…something to do. and he gets like an hour out to play each day when i bring him in the house. he also gets about a half hour in his outdoor run. he had a willow basket…. which was the olny toy i ever saw him like. he ate it and tossed it around. its been gone for months.

its this habit of licking his flooring(the cardboard) bad? does it taste good? my mom suggested it tasted lightly of pizza, but she was kidding, LOL.  or is this habit out of bordem? if so, any toy ideas he might like? oh darn hes so picky!

I’d get him another basket to chew and play with.  Especially if that is what he likes it might be boredom causing this licking

cotton licks pillows  he is showing affection from a distance

Also know some rabbits lick things to show affection to you.  Even tho what they are licking isn’t you or what you are wearing.

I have noticed that my bunnies also like to lick the floor and haven’t figured out why yet either. I do have one that will lick the floor while I am petting her, which is I think her way of grooming me without actually “grooming” me (like bunnytowne mentioned).

If you’d like to get your bunny an inexpensive toy, try finding a cardboard box and cut a little tunnel in one side. Then your bunny can spend time chewing and re-modeling it. It is very important for your bunny to have some toys, or something to play with, like a cardboard box. Also, toilet paper tubes and paper towel tubes are good toys (if they don’t have any glue on them).

MB: i went on a bit of a toy hunt today, looking thorough the attic. i found a really cute parrot toy(it is different shapes of wood w/ a bell on the end, all connected by a chain) witch buttons enjoys tossing around. he doesnt chew the wood though. he seems to be having a lot of fun with it also for my bday(15th, yay!) my friend bought me a willow basket type thing filled(with timothy hay braided around the basket too) with timothy hay and dried apple/cranberry treats. its called something like peters snack basket or something…..i cant wait to give it to buttons…. i know he will love it!

happy bday.    Hey where is your gift?  That is  your buns gift.

You know I am kidding.   It is great when friends know how much you love your bun and get things for you to give them.  Especially on your bday.  How cool.

Then y’all can watch bunny play with it and eat from it.

I would recommend only giving the parrot toy when you are able to supervise- if he were to bite the chain he could get his teeth caught in the links.

Something that I do for my bunnies is to take a piece of clean packing paper or computer paper- something with ink that will not smear- and wad it up, putting a couple of treats into the layers.  They will tear the ball apart trying to get to the treats.

Any chance that your bun could be licking excessivly because of a lack of something in the diet (ex. salt)?

rachelB: hmmmm really good idea, i like your thought process! but,he does have a salt lick, which he loves to lick. its apple flavored. he sits and licks it each night. its so cute

oh thanks for the bday wishes im excited yay and katnip, i LOVE that idea!  i have got to try that! i got rid of the parrot toy. i will give it to him only when i can watch him. my friend that gave me that cute woven hay basket and stuff is great-we have been BFF’s since we were 2! buttons REALLY likes that toy! he ate all the hay(picked out the dried fruit first, of course) and he keeps tossing it around. he seems to spend as much time chewing it and eating the hay thats woven in the sides. she also made me a really cool necklace. it has a mini picture frame w/ buttons pic in it! i love it!

                              BUTTONS SAYS HI
