I’ve been asking my boyfriend to loan me his camera so that I can take pics of Echo and Calypso. (Obviously, he hasn’t remembered to give it to me yet.) Sooo… I thought I’d post some pics of Xiao Pang, my first bunny ever. (I had a camera when I had her!) Here she is, my beautiful Xiao Pang:

I don’t know how she thought this was comfy…

This one is like a game… Can you find the bunny?

WHAT IS THAT??? I KNOW they’re not snacks…

          Here are a few more:

She always loved to get her head rubbed like this. If you pulled  away, she would inch forward and stuff her face in your hand again.

          Chilled out little cutie pie…

Travelling first class on a Chinese train.

          And, finally… the money shot…

PS I didn’t know how to set the date thing on my camera… these weren’t all taken in one day.

Oh what a beautiful bunny! ^_^ Heehee..my mini-rex, Fiver will bump me with his forehead or scoot his head into my hand if he wants pets.
I love the traveling picture! Wish I could get my bunnies to go in a bag like that, I’d take them everywhere with me!

You know, she was SUCH a great traveler. I moved cities a few times in China, so she spent a lot of time on buses, trains and the such. She spent the first 30 hour train trip in a carry on bag! lol. As long as she could stretch out, she was happy enough. She was such a conversation piece on my travels, too. Local Chinese people would always ask about her, but most conversations ended with them giving her middle an appraising squeeze and exclaiming “hao che”. Direct translation? “good eat”. lol Then I would explain in my broken Chinese that she was not an eating bunny, but a peng you (friend). lol

i’m sorry for any offence, Lara. things do change and have changed a lot, but it still takes time. the good thins is more and more people fall in love with bunnies, as “peng you” .
Xiao Pang is adorable! she’s one of 3 bunnies here, who have chinese names. you know Xiao AI is one, and Fluffy’s chinese name is “mao mao”. actually, we named him mao mao before Fluffy. the two names share similar meaning, one for chinese and the other for english speakers, easy to pronounce.
and, have you taken Xiao Pang back from china? my family is planning to move somewhere, the only problem is how to take Fluffy with us. there seem very strict regulations, making it almost impossible. i try to prolong the date, but it would come eventually, i’m afraid.

Actually, Xiao Pang still lives in China. At the time, only cats and dogs could be brought out of China as pets. It broke my heart to leave her, but she lives with a friend of mine who loves her and treats her very well. I miss her every day, but I’m so grateful for the time I had with her. She made my life so much better. I hope that things have changed enough that you can bring Fluffy with you.

As for people thinking my bunny was food, I never took any offense. People, for the most part, were always so curious about the white girl with the rabbit, and they were always friendly. I didn’t mind at all answering their questions, although my mandarin was never good enough to teach them properly about rabbits as pets.

I might be wrong about this, because I’ve lost a lot of mandarin since coming back to Canada, but isn’t there a “mao” (not sure which tone) that also means cat?

yes, mao is cat of its first tone. ( do you still remember the 4 tones of mandarin ? ) the seond tone is hair, a family name, 1/10 chinese yuan…
also, there are many idioms, people live in different regions may not understand each other. where had you been living? maybe the local people speack with accent.
i hope i can bring Fluffy all his life. leaving him is the last thing i want to see

Yes, after all the hours I spent practicing those tones, I don’t think I’ll ever forget! lol. As for the regions… I spent my first nine months in Wuxi, which made it difficult to learn mandarin, as most people just spoke Wuxihua. After that, though, I headed North to Harbin, where I learned the most of my Chinese. The fact that the local dialect was Putonghua made it so much easier to make progress and learn the language. After seven months there, I headed South again and lived in Shaoxing, where I stayed until I came home.

I really, really hope that you’ll be able to bring Fluffy with you when you leave, because I know how devastating it is to leave a bun behind. I keep hoping that I’ll make it back to China to see my baby bun, but that’s not likely while I’m a student… oh, it’s just too sad to think about…

She was always that way… so chill about everything. If she had to stay in a tiny bag for two days, smooshed onto a train, she resigned herself to it and did it like a pro. As long as I was petting her, she was happy. Then, when she got out, she’d binky for an hour straight!!
