        See above statement.

My sweet little girl (heh…maybe not), Luna…not so innocent anymore!!!  we have had her for about a month and was given an age estimate of 3 months old when we got her.  Well, I read about how some folks put stuffed animals into a bun’s cage to combat loneliness, and so I did. And Luna went crazy and humped the crap out of it, and I think even sprayed something unpleasant on my stuffed shark!!!  Now Im wondering if she is really a he.  Also disturbing, my bun started to hump my arm when I was petting her.  It seems like we threw an “on” switch that doesn’t want to turn off. I read that its good to wait until the bun gets to be 6months before you spay, but Im thinking now of taking her to the vet sooner for a thorough check up and to ID sex.  I don’t think that the person I bought her from knew *that* much about buns.

How do I assert my dominance without hurting her? I would like to continue to be able to play with Luna, but I don’t want to be violated by my pet whenever I step into her pen. And those claws hurt!

        thanks for your advice!

Female bunnies hump and spray too, so don’t be too sure about her being a him. She’s just getting hormonal make sure to tell her NO if she starts hurtin ya at all. She’ll learn eventually. lol

You may be able to tell if she is a he yourself by now. Especially if she is 3-4 months and this behaviour is starting. Have a look to see if any testicles have descended. If so – congratulations, it’s a boy! Also means he can be neutered already. If you can’t find anything, then the sex is still in doubt. Others have reported their females behaving like this also. Not sure what you can do about it though until speutering them. Just provide a toy and perhaps give her/him plenty of running around time?

Yes check for testicles. When I got Valen, I was told he was a she. Then she started humping our cat after 4-5 months. I checked her again and sure enough, SHE was a HE! So we had him neutered and the humping stopped….poor kitty was confused….lol! Both are fine now!

IT doesn’t mean she’s a he-just horomanal After the spay (or neuter!) she’ll calm down.

And letting her have the stuffed animal is great-for loneliness and to get the ‘humping’ out of her system. I wouldn’t worry too much about asserting your dominance-like most animals humping can mean dominance but in a teenager bunny-it usually means what it looks like-that she finds your arm and that toy, well, pretty darned good looking

I must be the only one who found my girl holding on for dear life with her teeth to hump me hysterically funny.
She wouldn’t bite hard, just gently try to hang on with me in fits of laughter. It was even more comical when she would go after the cats.
If it wasn’t for the awful smell from her spraying everything & the health risks, I may have left her unspayed.
I still chuckle when I think about my little 3.5 pound angel chasing me & the 14 pound cat to hump us.

I didn’t even need to look for Spockie’s testicles. I called it “the toothpick” – really clearly a boy.

If she’s hurting you with biting and scratching, just let out a high pitched squeal. Bunnies know that a high scream means pain, and you don’t have to be loud to get the message across. She will still try, but may be less intense with her teeth etc.

This is an old thread and we ask members not to revive old threads, because it can create confusion.
If your bun was neutered just recently, this is normal. Humping and other sexually driven behavior can become more intense during the first weeks following the neuter. It’s known as a “post-neuter craze”.

I’ll be locking this thread now. You can start a thread of your own here if you like:
