› Forum › THE LOUNGE › Hello from Seattle (with pics!)
Hello everyone!
I am new to these forums, but definitely not new to bunnies! I have two great buns, Milo and Eddison. They were previously bonded, but they have sadly had a falling out. Eddison is about 1.5 years old, and he’s half lionhead/half nethie. Milo is about 8 months old, and he is a holland lop. I love them both to pieces!
Here they are when they were bonded:

Next to his best friend (before Milo):
Can’t wait to get to know you all!
(Also, if there is anyone from anywhere near the Seattle area, I’d love to talk to you especially! I have a lot of questions about where you get supplies, etc etc!)
Welcome to BB, and may I say your bunnies are just adorable *snuggles!* May I ask what happened to make them un-bond?
Hi Sara, Welcome to the forum.
You have very pretty bunnies. I’m just ga-ga over that lop, what a beauty.

I’ll try to be as concise as possible, but no guarantees!
I had Eddison as a single bun from the age of 7 months till about a year old, so he was used to being alone. He was unneutered (as I was stupid at the time), but he was never terribly hormonal. No urine marking, no chewing things. He was very good in his adolescence. But when he reached a year, I really decided that he needed a friend, so I set out to find him a girlfriend.
After Eddison was neutered, Milo came into my life, but originally as Mimi! I was told he was a girl, as I got him when he was 8 weeks old. I kept Milo in an x-pen of his own, and the bunnies bonded through the bars kind of on their own, as Eddison was free range about my apartment. One day, Milo snuck out while I was changing his litter, and they started grooming each other, so I just let things be. They bonded very nicely, and were great friends for about a month or so. However, Milo’s testicles descended when he was about 13 weeks, and that’s when I found out that he was a boy. I had him neutered the day after that, and they stayed bonded. In a few weeks, however, they started fighting when I had friends staying over with me. Fur pulling, chasing, and blood was drawn. I separated them, but allowed them to still see each other through bars.
I rebonded and chalked it up to the stress of having weird people in the house. However, they fought again a few weeks later, more of the same. But they would groom each other in between fights, which really confused me. My boyfriend and I moved to a new apartment in a week, so I figured I would rebond them in neutral territory, as they were free range and there was really no neutral territory in that apartment. After we moved, I tried again, but they fought instantly.
So here I am, months later. I keep them in two separate bunny cube condos, but they have a common wall. They groom each other through the wall, but everytime I let them interact, the chasing starts. I have pretty much given up, and am looking to possibly rehome Eddison and then get Milo a girlfriend. It’s been so heart breaking, and I love them both very very much.
Sorry for the long story! Just wanted you to get a glimpse into their relationship.
Welcome Sara! The bunnies are so cute – I just want to squeeze their cheeks!
The great thing about forums like this is you can chat with others that have had similar things happen as you have with Milo and Eddison. They sound like they have made friends again easily in the past so it’s hopeful. One of the previous forum leaders had a pair that had a falling out once a year. She didn’t know why but was able to re-bond them and move on. Anyway, if you do attempt to rebond your two in the future, you’ll find plenty people here supporting and cheering you on!
What’s the name of little orange lionhead. Is this a bunny you had in the past? You will think I’m crazy………but I have to tell you. When I saw his/her picture I’m sure he WINKED at me!!! lol. I kept scrolling back and staring at it. I even checked the picture properties to see if it was a GIF file – but no, it’s not….so either he winked or I’m losing it. Likely the latter. lol
They are so adorable! It’s nice to meet you! Welcome!

Thanks for the welcoming! To be honest, I post on a rabbit forum in the UK, because it was all I could find when I was panicking that Milo might be blind (but it seems he’s just slightly visually impaired). But they’re all asleep when I went to post, so I looked around, and this forum looked great! I’ve learned so much from the other forum, although it was tougher because all the medicine discussed was UK specific. (One thing they have called Fibreplex is just like BeneBac, but with lots of fiber in it! Genius!)
I’d love to rebond my two guys, but I’m not sure I know how to make it work. I’m afraid that since they’ve drawn blood, they could do it again and I wouldn’t want to risk either of them developing an abscess. But I am very open to any ideas!
Eddison is the little orange lionhead. And I bet he did wink at you! He’s a cheeky little bun. (That’s the UK forum talking!) =)

Hehe! Sounds like our language too.
Ok, so I was thinking there were 3 different bunnies. Doh! In the first pic Eddison looked like a greyish colour so I was confused.

Oh no worries, it’s just a testament to my amazing photography skills and deep understanding of light/dark. (Or that I’m afraid to use flash around my buns! lol)
And one of my best friends lives in Melbourne, so I’ve got some basic Aussie down. (Or maybe just a psychotic obsession with Tim-Tams…)
Did you try stress bonding them at all? Or a more gentle let them do as they please kind of bonding?

I’m not sure of the proper names for things, as these are the first buns I’ve tried to bond. Is stress bonding putting them in a small, neutral area? Or is that more like having them take a car ride together?
When they first bonded, it was more of a “do as they please” thing. When I brought them to a new place. I put them together in a small, neutral territory with just a hay box, but I have to admit, their chasing and fur pulling scared me pretty quickly.
Car rides, a few minutes in a basket on top of the dryer, the stress of the motion and noise can help bond them a bit. Try a 10 minute car ride with them every day, see what happens with that.
Anything is worth a shot! I’ll keep you guys posted =)
Stress bonding like a car ride is good for patch ups. Check out bonding tips under Bunny Info tab top of page.
Off topic – Sara, are you familiar with the Tim-Tam shotgun?

I’ll definitely check out the tab!
I’m scared and excited at the same time…. what is a Tim-Tam shotgun?
lol – you should be! Gosh, now I’ve mentioned it I haven’t done this nor had a Tim Tam in a long time.
Anyway, basically it’s a very piggy way to have a Tim Tam. You need: 1 Tim Tam (or 3 incase you mess up ) and 1 coffee or hot beverage of choice.
You nibble off a corner then the another diagonally opposite. Dip one nibbled corner into your drink – careful not to immerse it too much. Place mouth over other nibble corner and suck the coffee up thru the biscuit. As soon as the coffee gets to your mouth, quickly shove the ENTIRE biscuit into your mouth. The biscuit implodes and then all there is left to do is enjoy the very gooey, chocolate decadence. Mmmmm!
To make it challenging - do this hands free, throwing your head back to get TimTam into mouth.
You bunnies are so cute! I love you lop’s eyes, he looks like a little panda bunny in the first pic.
I’m from around seattle too!
Welcome.
I’m not sure how intense the chasing and nipping is but just as an fyi, my two bonded bunnies usually have a pulled tuft of fur about once a week. If it is a nip and run, I would let them be and see what happens, however if this is a continuous chase for blood, then you should try something like stress bonding (car rides or putting them on top of a dryer).
Welcome!!! Your bunnies are both so cute, I hope you don’t end up parting with one.
your buns as so adoreable! i was in a similar situation with 2 female buns… tho my unspayed girl was a senior rabbit who has since passed away. i set up their enclosures side by each with a common wall as well. they enjoyed being next to each other and did everything in unison (eating grooming sleeping…) except that they had split ‘free’ time out of their enclosures. i tried bonding them but was hampered by the old gal’s health issues. would you consider keeping them both separated if they won’t bond? its a bit more work and they have less free time ultimately but it could work if you just can’t part with one! good luck

Thanks for the post! I’m actually in the exact position you described right now. They’re side by side, sharing one bedroom in adjacent NIC condos, and they groom each other and sleep next to each other, etc. But, because they fight, they have separate times to run around and play. Or I’ll put one in my bedroom, and let the other run about the rest of the house.
But I really think it’s unfair to the buns. They get half the run around time that they would if they were bonded. They also have a smaller living quarters (as I was going to give the whole bedroom to them both, not split it). And the most important is that I think they both really want companionship with another bunny, more than just grooming through bars. Milo is always biting the bars that lead towards Eddison’s cage, and it’s really heartbreaking. I have a girl who is interested in making Eddison the husbun of her holland lop female, so I’m going to see where that leads. I would love to keep both, but I really want to do what will make bunnies the most happy.
Plus, if Eddison gets a new home with a girlfriend, I can get a girlfriend for Milo. I would definitely get her from a rescue, so I would make 3 bunnies happy, and help support a rescue. It really hurts to part with one of my guys, but I just try and focus on what’s best for all bunnies involved.
Hii ! You may recongize me! I love your buns soooo cute! Eddision is just too adorablle!
