I picked Griffin up last Monday- and we just decided upon a name today.  My husband loves hockey- and we live near Grand Rapids, MI and the Grand Rapids Griffins are the affiliate team to the Detroit Red Wings which is my husbands favorite team.  So he voted for that name- and I am going with the “official” spelling of the name.

He is super sweet and goofy.  His ears are long- and his nose is long- but his legs and tail are also super long- I could watch him for hours.  His binkies are different than the compact lop binkies that I am used to.

His coloring is blue tort.  He loves to give bunny kisses and nudges.  It will be at least 3 more weeks until he is anywhere near Cotton or Schroeder since I am erring on the side of caution and keeping him away from them- and Cotton and Schroeder are handled and out before Griffin can come out.

He is standing on his ears in the first pic- that is pretty common.  And his ears are really warm- I was holding him on my lap and I thought he peed on me- but it was the heat from his ear.

OMG! So cute! My favorite kind of bunny and my favorite name! (my little cat’s name is also Griffyn, different spelling)

Such beautiful coloring and so lanky. This one is going to be a caution around your feet, Kat. ^_^ Actually, he’s going to be a caution around his own feet! lolz…
Lucky you! Hopefully more piccies soon? *begs*

The last pic shows his tail pretty well- that is his tail that is straight back.  I got so used to watching Cotton’s tail when she was young to see if she was going to pee or not- but his tail is so long he moves it a lot anyway!

How adorable! You are so lucky! You mentioned that his ears were particularly hot, does that mean that he is more likely to get cold? As in, does he tolerate slightly higher temps than the average rabbit but not tolerate the cold that most of our rabbits could in theory (not that we’d put them in those situations intentionally).

Weeeee…at last! Been waiting for his debut on Binky Bunny! I can see why you want to watch him for hours, must be so different to what you’re used to with the other lops. He’s almost puppy-like. Amazing what size he is for 9wks. I remember Abbie growing big super quick.
                    Congratulations!

AWWWW! He’s adorable! I’m sure you’ve mentioned it, but what kind of rabbit is he? I love that picture of him standing on his ears, hehe. Jerseygirl, you’re right he is very puppy-like. I would LOVE to see a binky from him! I’m an utter failure at getting pictures and/or videos of Leroy’s binkies, so I love seeing other people’s buns binky around. Leroy binkies so rarely that I’m never prepared for them. And even when he does binky, they’re only half-hearted. That’s just how he is I guess… the stinker would rather zip around/under the table and thump his feet – he thumps even when he’s happy/excited!

The ears are so warm you thought you got peed on.  Wow those are some hot ears.  Long too

Hey keep the pics coming.  I definitely want to see more of this little thing. HE will big grown up all too soon.

Katnip, how much did you pay for him, can I ask?
The ears, since they are so big would they not also radiate off more heat if temps were warm?

Petzy-  I bought him as a pet only so he has no tattoo that would be required for ARBA showing (from my understanding).  At the point I bought him he was/is considered show quality- but also from my understanding that can change as they get older and grow- and then prices would potentially increase as shows are won and titles are added or body type and ear length get more ideal.   I put a deposit on him when he was 6 weeks old- and picked him up when he was 8 weeks old.  I think some breeders will hold them longer than that to determine show quality- but out of his litter of 8- 5 were already sold/claimed for local 4H kids and their own breeding stock for their children and niece.   So at least 5 of the bunnies out of his litter are staying in NE Michigan.  I paid $50 for him.  The pet stores in SW Michigan where I live usually charge $50 for any baby bunny regardless of breed, mixed or pure.

His ears are super warm- and our house is air conditioned.  He does not have a lot of fur on his ears like my Mini Lops do.  I read online that English Lops are an old breed- one of the oldest- and that they developed the massive ears with all the veins as a “radiator” to cool the blood as it circulated thru the ears.  I guess they are not from “England” as the name would indicate- but from Africa.

I always loved Abbie- I thought she looked so beautiful, gentle and wise.  I don’t remember seeing baby pics of her- mainly adult pics.  If I thought I could have added another female (spayed) to my house- I probably would have figured out a way to get her from Florida when she was available for adoption.

                                        *squeeeeeee!!!!!!*

He is the cutest guy. His tail will be so much fun – expressive and you can play with it. (Wait till he hits puberty and it whirls.)

I think of Abbie sometimes, so I’m glad that you got one if you love that particular breed. That picture of Griffin standing on his own ears is priceless.
BTW, tell hubby I like that name a lot. “Griffindore Wins!”

Maybe you can tie these ears up behind his head during bonding… to protect them, you know?! (j/k)

Julie, this was Ashleys post introducing Abbie at 9 wks! https://www.binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/a…fault.aspx  Not quite a baby.

One of my fave baby pics are of English Lops. (see below)  I mean c’mon, that is some serious cuteness!

But it’s all well and good to look at pictures, it’s not the same as having an EL right there in your home!

Hey, I’d just get some of those gentle fabric or knitted plush hair ties and put his ears up all cute when bonding time comes. That’s what I do with my long eared bunny plushies.
Of course, better get blue ones, yanno…don’t want to give him a complex.
                                                  Whirling tails, Pam?? 0_o Seriously?

You could always try a scrunchy to hold his ears up – he, he, he.

I am going to use a scrunchy on his ears to see if he will tolerate it and if it helps him.  I am a bit nervous about bonding- so have not given it much thought- but some nice sturdy chain mail ear covers would come in handy.      I would feel horrible if something happened to his ears- his big beautiful ears.  I am going to get pet insurance for him before I start any bonding.

My husband does not trust him yet not to pee on him- so Griffins time out is spent with my husband removing Griffin from his lap, Griffin jumping back on his lap, and the cycle repeats until Griffin comes over to see me instead.  But he seems to think there must be something awesome on my husbands lap and he just wants to figure out what it is.

Honestly, lop-eared buns are at a disadvantage during bonding with their ears exposed more at… tooth level, I recently discovered… (Clifford has no less than six incisor marks all on the same ear, but superficial ones)

Griffins gorgeous, maybe you could give your husband a really thick towel to put in his lap so the bunny can check out the awesome without peeing him down 😉 but surely your husband understands that’s really an honor?

He already has a blanket on his lap- and he eventually tries to hold the blanket up to create a “wall” to discourage Griffin from climbing on his lap.  I have already tried to reason with him that the worst that can happen is the rabbit pees on his lap- which is already covered by a towel- but he persists in being a baby and placing Griffin away from him.  Just wait until Griffin is 9-10 lbs- then he should be able to sit where ever he wants!

And he will half heartedly pet him while watching TV and Griffin has nibbled him a couple of times in protest- as he deserves undivided attention.  So now my husband in convinced the rabbit is going to pee on him and bite him- and I think Griffin and Chad would both be happier if they spent 5 minutes cuddling and all the mistrust and persistant pestering would resolve.  But what do I know??  I am just the “rabbit lady”.

But then Griffin will pull the classic move of  “oh, what’s this?  My poo?  Don’t mind if I do” and eat a piece of poo right in front of my husband- and that is really interfering with their male bonding since he is then not interested in any bunny kisses at all.

Your husband is scared of the wee little bunny he has to hide behind a blanket!

Griffin will be 9 lbs. how nice.

Edit: You know, Katnip, you mention ‘male bonding’…. it is said to be the harder bond… you may have to use stress techniques, such as squrting water at the one that is not acting appropriately (who that is is for you to decide!)

He makes me get a damp papertowel and “clean up” though I keep trying to tell him that there’s nothing to clean! And then he won’t accept bunny kisses for at least an hour
