I met Sammykins last Halloween. She was 9 weeks old then. I got her the next day, and took her home to my parent’s house just under a week later. We think she was born the end of August, beginning of September.

I thought it would be easy to remember a birthday of September first. So I could celebrate it then. Although, something makes me think it’s more like August 30th. Why, I don’t know.

But since I don’t know, MM gave me the idea of an anniversary date. I could just celebrate on Halloween, the day we met and it was fate.

I’m not even sure which day would be our anniversary. (Could go back and reread my emails or posts to find out.)

        What do you guys think?

I think that the anniversary/adoption date is more special. Most people do not know the date of birth for their bunny, but they do know when they brought that special somebun home.

The anniversary/adoption date is symbolic of the bun’s first day with you, and especially if the bun had a bad past, it is the first day of their new life and it represents a clean slate in a loving, forever home.

We do a little of both. Two buns we actually know birthdates on, two we celebrate what the previous owner told us their birthdays were, and the other two we use the date that we met them on!!!! I think it’s more a matter of opinion of which is more special to you!!!!!!!!!

Here’s a good one though… We have a bird whose been with us for about 14 1/2 years and every year we have the same debate… Do we celebrate the day his egg was laid OR the day he hatched????? Since I know both dates, he usually ends up getting 2 specail days – I mean how can you pass up the opportunity to shout “Happy Lay Day” and “Happy Hatch Day”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL Which came first? The Chicken Day or the Egg Day!

OK, I just checked my records. I actually did pay to have her held for me on Oct. 31st (Halloween). On November 3rd was the signed document and I took her home that day. My own birthday is Nov. 14th, which was when she and I moved into our new apartment together.

And the woman was really messed up about her birth date  –   she thought she was 4 months old as of November, then realized she was a month younger than that when I asked her to check her records a few weeks later. First she thought birth was the end of July, then it seemed to be the end of August that she was born. Who knows.

Pam, just reading your siggy, it seems Halloween has the most significance for you. Lightchick posted on Jersey’s anniversary “Happy Homecoming Day” I term I quickly took up. It has a sweet sentiment.

I’d say that, if the adoption day isn’t too far off from the supposed birth date (like half a year or more) then that is the day you should celebrate. (of course, our bunnies celebrate being with us every day, but that’s not my point)
Isn’t your birthday in November, Pam? Why not make it the same day? Double up on the carrot cake! ^_^
My older cat, Myuu, was brought home the first week of December, but we figured her to be about three months old at the time. Since that placed her b-day around October (fitting for a black cat) I just went ahead and made it October 13th. I’m probably way off, but my daughter and Shadow and quite a few other people I know are born in December…it was just too much to remember at that time.
But with the bunnies, it’s just so much easier to remember when they came home. Mimzy is July 16th, Fiver is August 20th, and Pip is a day or two before Christmas.
But like I said, every day with them is special. I think seeing the support topic being filled so much lately has made me really try to think of it in those terms.
Anyway…I’ll just add that I like Halloween too for Sammy. Since it’s also known as Samhain, I think it fits.

The breeder we got Monkey from didn’t tell us an exact date for her birth, so I think I’m gonna do adoption date for her June 6th weee!

Monkeybun: June 6th (of 2008) is Max’s adoption date… We can celebrate together! ;o)
