Currently three rabbit shelters in the Bay Area are rounding up over a hundred rabbits that had been let loose over time at a school in San Jose.  For some time the rescues had tried working with law officials to make it illegal to attack these bunnies with sticks, dogs and pellet guns but to no avail.  So the only option now has been to remove them and find them new homes.  They’ve been working for the last week and are of course looking for foster homes and donations.  Below is a video of the rescue.  I warn you that there are a couple of pictures of a rabbit they found after hearing a shot – the body of a pregnant rabbit shot in the neck with a pellet gun.  All I have to say is that it was a good thing I wasn’t there because I’d be in jail now and unable to help them.

Quite a challenge for them to capture them all and ensure they find any nests. Guess these resuers have had some experience though!  So frustrating – the sign at the beginning indicates it’s illegal to dump them – yet attacking them is not?

I received an email update on this story in my box this evening.

The video of the babies is so precious! I love the one who has the totally white left leg that the stripe reaches all the way up to that blue eye on the left side of it’s face! I’d walk all the way down there and grab him/her and walk all the way back to bring that little sweetie home!

You know, when I was a kid, my dad gave me a pellet gun to use to protect my declawed cat from other animals. It never entered into my mind to actually shoot an animal with it. But it made a loud enough noise to scare off any intruders to our property. Nowadays, it seems it’s just sport to senselessly hurt or kill helpless animals like these.
What is wrong with our species? Are we being born without hearts?

Nope.  I believe that for the last 20 years or so, children have/are being raised with a greater desensitization to the value of life.    Here’s the video above embedded here.

Thanks Markus. I know how to embed, but I get lazy. >.< I used to be able to save YouTube vids to me computer also, but for some reason it's not working tonight and this is one I want to keep. Those little binkies just warm my heart!
The bunnies are so beautiful. *sniffle* I wish I could take them all home with me.

Oh what little darlings in that video. How I wish I could drive there and take em all home. Hopefully they find good, safe, permanent homes soon.

I’m glad to hear that the rabbits were rescued. I just don’t understand how some people can be so cruel

Yes, people do suck at times. Makes me want to put them into that kind of situation themselves sometimes… but then I’d feel bad… well, karma will bite them back at some point.

We had an adoption show this weekend and 3 of the Moreland bunnies were adopted into their own homes.  Our family fostered one of the rescued litters for a few days, so we made a video of them.  We call them the Five of Hearts.  Two of them have already been adopted!
