I think my rabbit’s been getting some hiccups.  It isn’t for a long time but I think I’ve heard it a few times today.  Does anyone else have a rabbit with hiccups?  I read that it might be related to gas or something but I’m not sure how I could tell and none of those places that I read about rabbit hiccups were actual rabbit websites.

Yep, rabbits get hiccups. There was a post about it a few months ago, but I can’t get the link to you yet because the site is under construction this weekend. I’ll try to find it for you later.

Basically, an occasion moment of hiccups is nothing to worry about. If it is prolonged, like lasts over 20 minutes, I would definitely call my vet and ask if s/he needs to see your bun.

Is there any particular vegetables you are feeding her lately that might be causing some kind of stomach irritation? I would stick to the more plain veggies like the dark leafed lettuces, or parsley to see if that helps. How long does she hiccup for? I hate getting the hiccups, they drive me crazy

Laith used to get hiccups.   It is so funny… Poor Laith I tried not to laugh at him.

She’s only been getting romaine. But as far as any kind of stomach irritation I would blame my friend Metacam. She doesn’t hiccup for very long. I’ll hear it for maybe 30 seconds at most then nothing. I heard it a few different times yesterday though so I wasn’t sure if that was bad or not.

Are you giving her some Metacam at the moment? How long will you be giving it to her? Maybe if you are using a syringe in her mouth, she’s gulping some air and that gives her hiccups. You noticed a correlation between the time she gets it and the time she gets the hiccups?

We are giving it. I don’t know how long she will get it. It is more like a defensive kind of thing now. Just in case. I can skip the dose this morning and see if the hiccups come back. She usually gets it mixed in with some food. I haven’t seen any real correlation between the hiccups and anything else. She chewed a timothy seed head once time and got hiccups. Not sure that is relevant though.

Now that I think about it. I wonder if it is hiccups or some kind of twitching. Dang I should’ve asked the walk-in vet last night when I was there. Doh. Not that she was “hiccuping” when I was there.
