hello!  why do rabbits growl? my bun does it a lot..and i don;t know what triggers it.

when i am walking down the hall, she will race past me as if she is pushing in, and growl at the same time….and all i’m doing is innocently walking down the hall! also, she only does it to me, not my husband…although she does growl at him occassionally..not often.

Sounds to me like she’s being territorial. How old is she?

I find my three girls do that to me if I forget my rabbit manners and walk past them without the required devotion and noserub. The rabbit-speak website (dang, can’t remember it right now) says in rabbit language, to rush by another without acknowledging their presence (and superiority) is just plain rude…..lol

Pringles and Lola can be so insistive about it, they will growl and run in front of me with their head in the PET ME NOW OR YOU DIE HUMAN position and I’ve almost tripped over them a few times.

Don’t worry, they will have you trained in no time.

Archie only growled or honked when he wanted to mount Gracie.  I’m not exactly sure why but everytime Gracie runs into the living room she’ll honk everytime she hops by.  It’s cute and goofy and we always know when she enters a room.

sometimes a rabbit is just vocal. I know that my GF’s georgie would grunt whenever she had a chance to do it. She’d even grunt at her food and toys.

Pepper growled for the first time when I was fostering a possible husbun – I stared and then I cracked up.  It sounds JUST like a little dog

She will sometimes growl and box when I sweep near her litterbox or have to poke UnderThe Bed (which she has adopted as her kingdom) – so it seems for her it’s mostly a territorrial

Are you walking toward the area where you feed her or give treats? Also, are you normally the one to feed her? Mine will growl when I’m getting her her pellets. Growl impatiently and run circles around my feet. She’ll also race me to where the feed is kept. She’ll also grow if I’m “in her face”, sweeping up, dangling toys at her etc…

well now that i think about it, it does occur at feeding time..and other times too. i guess she must think that everytime i walk down the hallway she’s getting food!

Please do not respond to old threads. This one is from 2009. It just causes confusion. Thanks.
