The name is because she was Sutter until we figured out that he was a she.  Oops.

She is part of a litter that showed up at a shelter at a few weeks old with no mother.  Since babies last less than 24 hours at shelters, we took all four of them.  One of our medical sites hand fed them for a few weeks to get them healthy enough to eat on their own.  She is now about 3 months old.  Her sister got adopted last week, and she is going to spend about a month with us unless she gets adopted.  We are treating her for coccidia, and she loves her meds!  You just say "Time for your meds" and when she sees the syringe she hops over and licks it off of the syringe.

She is absolutely gorgeous! I’m glad you explained the name too because I was going to ask about it. It’s good she likes her meds too. I had a rabbit only one time that cooperated with his meds and it was so cute. It was the meds for coccidia too – I guess it must taste okay if they take it so well.

Of course I haven’t had any rabbits since then that cooperated with the meds.

What a beautiful bunny! And she sounds so sweet!

Just as a side question – what is the name of the medicine for coccidia? I’m trying to build up my medical knowledge in case I ever have a bunny medical emergency and have to go to a *gasp* non bunny savvy vet

                    Moobunnay – I think it’s Albon.

I am pretty sure Sarita is right, it is Albon (sulfadimethoxine).  This is considered a sulfa drug, and is supposed to be effective in killing off the coccidia parasites.  She is getting a 7 course of it.  It comes in a milky white suspension that is administered orally.  it must taste good, she really likes it.  More information on coccidia is available here.

I have not decided yet if I can compost her droppings or if the parasites will survive the composting and potentially infect somebunny else.

Yipee! Congratulations to gorgeous Suttara. Thank you Osprey for fostering this beautiful bunny too by opening up your home to her. It’s a great feeling when your fosters find good homes isn’t it!

Yes, it is a good feeling, and the timing was perfect.  We were planning to give her to another foster site this weekend because the girls are going back to school this week, but she was adopted before we had to move her.  Things worked out perfectly!  She has gotten a wonderful bunny home, as a mate to a bunny who recently lost his friend.
