Yesterday was Max’s first vet appt.  Meadow went in too for her monthly nail trim.  i had to go get a new carrier in the morning (b/c i procrastinate like that) but i got an awesome one.  it’s a Marchioro carrier, medium size.  very sturdy.  they had one there for 32 bucks, and one there for 36.  i had no idea why there was a difference in price… i was thinking maybe it was just mis-marked or something.  i took them down off the shelf and i realized the 36 dollar one had a door that opened on top!  SWEET!  BONUS!!!  so of course i got that one.  i love it… it’s a wire grid top so i can see the buns inside.

they were perfect in the car.  Meadow hates it, but Max didn’t seem to mind too much.  they snuggled and groomed each other.  once we got there, one of the vet office cats came out and was sniffing around the carrier.  it made me nervous, but the buns didn’t even notice.  inside the room, the tech did Meadow’s nails first and weighed her.  she is at 3.6 lbs (so her weight has evened out).  after i put her back in and brought out Max.  he got his trim and he weighs 4.7 pounds.  i really thought he weighed more, but i think it was just b/c of all of the fur, it makes him puffier looking than Meadow.  the vet said he looks really good, his poop is great, no parasites.  teeth and ears are great, altho he has a small scab in one ear and he has a small cut on his lip from fighting with Mead.  she said it doesn’t need stitches, but she prescribed an antibiotic just in case.  i have to keep an eye on it.

i was a little bit put off when i got there b/c along with the regular tech i’ve seen before, there was a new woman.  she seemed absolutely shocked that i had the bunnies there, and when it came time to lift them in and out, she was too scared to do it, so i did it.  okay… i understand she’s new or whatever, but c’mon, you work at a vet that does exotics (and quite well, i might add!)  get used to it lady.  if i were a new client, i’d be a little bit POed about that.  but maybe that’s just me.  i expect more professionalism i guess.

but anyways… the really funny thing is that the top of the carrier was opened when they were on the exam table.  Max was out on the table, Mead was in the carrier.  she kept periscoping to look over the top and see Max.  before the vet came in, he was standing up against the side of the carrier to look in at Meadow.  it was almost like they couldn’t bear to be apart.  it was the cutest thing.  i could just snuggle my babies all day long.

my vacuum broke.    it doesn’t suck up anything.  i put the hose over a poop and it sucks it up for a second, but then spits it back out.  i told Mike yesterday and he was supposed to look at it BUT HE FORGOT!  so i’ll be picking up after the bunnies by hand here in a little bit.    i need to get a hand vac.  bad.

and just for fun and b/c he’s so dang adorable.  Max munching his Veggies!  you’ll notice the cut on his lip is not slowing him down at all.

What a cute video! I hope you get your vacuum fixed soon – that would drive me bananas.

Sounds like a good vet visit/bonding session too. It sounds like the new vet tech was just nervous – maybe it’s her first time to be a vet tech too. At least you didn’t have snakes – that would really have shocked her :~)

omgosh thats a cute vid.  watching buns munching on greens is my fav passtime

that woman would’ve ticked me off too.  if you work at a vet you need to suck it up & dive in there.  how else would she learn how to handle bunnies if she doesn’t actually try it?  wierd.

so sweet that they were looking for each other

I am so happy things are working out so well!  Very few incidents it sounds.  Love that video of the boy.  Why do we get such a kick out of watching them eat???!!! I certainly never thought it was cute when my kids were little and eating! It was disgusting!  What a big relief Max is a healthy boy!Max & Meadow are really the cutest couple.

I know – I enjoy the video, it even sounds cute.

Does anyone else ever wonder why they select certain leaves first? Sometimes they dig under (OK, that almost makes foraging sense) but sometimes they have one in their mouth and drop it for a different piece.

Beka, if this new techie doesn’t work out, maybe your vet will need a very experienced exotic pet owner for an assistant, you know, part time? You could be a bunny consultant.

Max will usually finish a whole piece first, Mead picks and chooses. one time, b/c i’m weird like that, i gave him one whole, washed leaf of romaine. it was bigger than he was practically. he sat and just munched the heck out of it.

i know… i have been kicking around the idea of feeding veggies in the evening and pellets in the morning. i tried it yesterday. i fed a huge bowl of greens at about 5 and at 6 Mike comes in and says, aren’t you gonna feed the bunnies? all the food was gone on Max’s side. i knew a second bun would mean more food and hay, but i had NO IDEA how much he could eat!

LOL YOu may have to keep their mealtimes separate even after you’ve fully bonded and they’re living together.
Max: “Hey, Mead, (nom nom nom) you gonna finish that? (munch munch.)”

LOL cute video!! I’m with you, I’d be chapped if the vet tech was scared to handle them-not that I would have wanted her to if she wasn’t comfortable. But if she can’t do it why is she working there? I mean who goes to school to do vet tech and hasn’t handled a rabbit before? Even our volunteer coordinator at the humane society can handle rabbits and it’s far from a job requirement!! But glad it went well otherwise!!

^^^in Ohio i’m 99% sure you must be licensed (or certified?) so she would have gone to school. i don’t think there’s any “on-the-job” training… so i would have thought she’d have at least had practice handling different animals. oh well…
