        How many of you rent?

I do hope we will buy in the next couple of years as the market here at least seems to be more prime for it, but eeeee, the San Francisco Bay Area is expensive.

AnyHOO, I know as a renter, it can be difficult to find a place that will accept three rabbits.  Many people just hide their rabbit ,and I have been lucky enough to have convinced landlords to accept our a little crew, but it wasn’t easy – I was even able to convince a "No Pets At All" landlord.  I found many people were still under the myth that rabbits are dirty ‘ol hutch animals.   This really didn’t surprise me though.   I ended up creating a Pet Agreement, that was specifically designed with Rabbits in mind.  It started off with breaking some of the myths about rabbits, and included more facts about House Rabbits, and what we will do as rabbit owners to house proof and protect the property.

I was just wondering if this contract I made would be helpful for others.  If so, I may end up posting it for the public so renters could educate potential anti-rabbit landlords.   Whatcha think?

Well, when I first got Cuddles I was in an apartment that was none to thrilled about the idea, guess they were afraid this 6 week old bun would eat the whole dang carpet *rolls eyes*.  And then I had to promise that she would not leave the cage, which of course I let our out almost all day and it only took me two days to train her to only potty in her cage as we had not litter trained yet.
But now that I live with my boyfriend, it’s no problem as he owns his own house, now I am just waiting for the Spring so that we can install sod in the back yard so she can go back there with us.
I think having that online would be a good thing, maybe hopefully change peoples minds.

We had rented when we had Bobo and Jubjub, but we had to hide them, which was a huge PITA.
Definately post the contract, it will help people…

I also rent in a “no pets” complex. But the unit i live in is actually my aunt’s place that she had bought. And half the complex is owned by my grandparents. But i think there’s a higher-up who actually mkaes all the rules like no pets and manages the fixing up of areas in the places that need it. My aunt had added a no pets comment on the lease i signed too. So when shecomes back Im going to be sending my 3 bunnies to my boyfriends place and to my other friends house who lives really close by so I could visit everyday and do cleaning and whatnot. Both of them have already taken care of my bunnies before so they know what to do. Although my friend refuses to do anything dirty like cleaning litterboxes, which is a good thing he lives closeby so I can visit everyday. And my boyfriend is over alot, and knows my bunnies pretty well.

When i have to move them and their cages, I always do it at night and hope nobody sees me. Our aptmt complex just hired security guards to patrol the area, so the next time I do that might be a bit riskier but it should still be fine. And this will be the first time moving three bunnies instead of just one. Usually when I have to take them to the vet, I just hope people think Im carrying luggage if they see me. haha

But although this is a no pets complex, I see cats running around all the time and sitting on people’s balconies. I even saw a girl dragging a little dog down the stairs once. Although that might have just been a visiting dog since I’ve never seen it again. When I have money I cant wait to be able to move into a small house or a nice aptmt that allows pets and not have to worry about my bunnies. that would be such a relief.

I completely understand about the Bay Area! We are leasing to own our home in Antioch. It’s a little farther than we wanted, but the closer you are to San Francisco area, the higher the real estate! I was upfront with the owners and told them that I own rabbits (5). They understood. The wife told me that her mom had rabbits, so she was cool with it. They were even written into the lease! My last apartment had a no pet policy, but I heard cats and saw a dog in the complex. However, they never knew about my rabbits. The contract is a good idea though. Having bunnies is a new concept to people; they are use to dogs and cats.

I rent, and I picked this building specifically because it allowed pets.  Getting a bun for me has been a 2-3 year dream and moving here was the final step – I brought her home when half my things were still in boxes!

I have hardwood floors, so the carpet-issue didn’t come up.  The rules specify that animals have to be locked up when maintenance comes in, which is the only reason I’ve not just dismantled her condo – she’s otherwise free-range 24-7 except for my bedroom

We are now in Alameda.  Still expensive but  we get a little more for our buck.  Instead of living in a one bedroom apartment for a million trillion dollars, we can live in a 2 bedroom house with a garage for a million trillion dollars.  It is RIDICULOUS how the price has gone up in the last 15 years.

Well, now living in Alameda instead of San Francisco, I don’t have to hike up and down hills anymore  to go to the corner market.  I also no longer have to worry about spilling a whole box of golf balls at a garage sale.  (boy that was an experience – ya know when you’re living on the slope of those SF hills – eyowssaa!  All I can say is I don’t know how all those golf balls missed all those cars and all those pedestrians.  Sheer luck!!

I hope no one in your family has to commute to San Francisco.  I feel pretty lucky as I can take the ferry across the bay, or take the train(bart) if I want to avoid the rush hour traffic.

I was in Antioch once.  Pretty little place, near some water – can’t remember what exactly.

wow..living in such a hilly place must be really different.. My area is quite ..flat… I went to Austin not too long ago, and it probably wasn’t as hilly as san fran. but it was still hilly in my opinion! All those ups and downs. Makes me glad I didnt decide to go to University of Texas because I cant imagine driving in a place like that!

San Francisco can definitely be hilly!  I drove my friend, who was visiting from the very flat place of Mesa, Arizona, over the top of fillmore street.  I guess I was so used to it, because I was baffled when she stopped talking and tears strolled down her face.  I asked what was wrong.  She uttered out "It’s just so high".

I think for her, she just wasn’t used to it, because to me it seems beautiful, not scary.
