So as many of you know, Carbun has congestive heart failure, is on daily medications to hold it in check for as long as possible, and unfortunately will eventually succumb to it, or complications thereof.  He is still eating well, but is beginning to lose a little weight, which is of course of concern.  But that’s a separate issue….

Carbun gets a treat after he gets his meds, as do the other bunnies.  They’ve come to expect it.  Well, every so often, Carbun will refuse the raisin, so we wind up giving him a craisin, which to our bunch is basically a super-raisin.

Now Carbun is refusing raisins after his meds, and this morning, even refused his breakfast banana slice.  At least initially–not sure what happened after I (Scooter) went to work.  Ordinarily, this would be something that would be quite worrisome, for example Bailey refused his breakfast banana the morning he died.

But in this case, we have to take things in context.  Carbun rushes to his cage door anytime we approach, regardless of whether we’re paying any attention to him or not, and will happily eat craisins.  He otherwise looks bright-eyed and alert, at least most of the time.  And he eats his normal food with the usual gusto, although last night he kept looking around every time he grabbed a mouthful of pellets, as if to wonder if anything else will be available.

Conclusion:  Carbun’s holding out for craisins.

        Little stinker!

Carbun is one smart little rabbit! I don’t blame him for holding out for the good stuff – he certainly deserves it.

                Carbun is so precious! <3<3<3
Pip has been feeling a bit under the weather lately and so I picked up a fresh bag of the highly coveted Craisins at the store the other day. Apparently the bag produces a unique crinkle…or she can smell them the moment you unzip it, because I’ve never seen her more excited for treat time!
Whoever came up with the idea for Craisins should be awarded sainthood. They’ve rescued me from more bunny disapproval than any other snack I’ve offered save Mimzy’s occasional post med banana.

Snuggles and vibes to brave Carbun. What a trooper he is!

                  Carbun

Let us know what he decides to eat today. (How about a banana split with a craisin on top? Nothing is too good for our Carbun.)

Well, yesterday Carbun decided that he missed raisins, and accepted them after his meds. Today, he’s decided he doesn’t like them anymore, and held out for THREE craisins. And he is eating his breakfast banana slice again.

His weight loss is worrisome. Although he’s eating, he doesn’t appear to be getting his cecotrophs, so he’s likely not getting all the nutrition he needs. And judging by what’s left in the pellet bowl after supper, he’s not eating quite as much as he did. We’ve taken to giving him veggies and fruit more times during the day, so he’ll absorb more. I’m not sure how much it’ll help, but I don’t think at this point it can’t hurt.
