        Hey guys!

So I’ve had my two buns in a very large cage for a while, and used to fill it all with bedding. I have now realized from reading these forums that I don’t need to use bedding in the entire cage other than the litter box!  So my question to you guys is what should i use in my cage? Should i line it with anything?

I feel like newspaper would just get super messy…

        What do you guys use?

What is the bottom of your cage currently? The bottom that came with the cage, I’m assuming?? I actually don’t put anything down to line the bottom of the cage, it’s just the plastic and they don’t seem to have a problem with it but the rest of their bunny condo — 2 other levels — are lined with outdoor carpet!

Usually most people don’t put bedding down because it tends to confuse them and they use it as litter instead. My buns sure did.

hmm.. the cage that they have right now has like a plastic floor. maybe towels n blankies?
i am going to attach an xpen and increase the space that they have soon, and put a shower curtain with a sheet on top of it for the xpen, just not sure about the actual cage area…

btw thanks for answering all my questions you rock! and seem to know lots about bunnies!

I asked a MILLLION questions when I got my buns so I know the feeling and most of my ideas have come from other people answering the same questions for me! But my buns LOVE towels so if you put one in there he’ll probably go nuts over it. Towels are great for toys also. Mine will dig and yank on a towel for hours.

The plastic floor really is okay if you’re worried about it not being comfy enough they always have their litter box AND you could add in a little comfy bed like you said a towel or blanket just for their comfort if you’re worried but mine a lot of times would actually dig anything I put in there out of the way and just lay on the plastic, hahaha. So don’t worry too much about putting something down there besides just a nice comfy place to lay! They can decide for themselves if they prefer the comfy part of just plain plastic!

I have old pillow cases that I cut in half to make them like blankets and I line the bottom of the cage with that…the first few days I had him he shoved the material away from him and laid on the plastic floor but now he seems to like to snuggle in the material.

I use mostly fleece and felt (I just make sure it’s a good enough quality that it doesn’t pill and Ruby can’t pull it apart easily). She won’t jump to the different levels of her condo if there isn’t any, the plastic freaks her out because she can’t grip onto anything. She is also a lot more active when it’s lined because she feels safer to flop and play in the cage knowing her feet are well grounded, so I tend to lean on the keep it lined side . The only plastic she is okay with is the very bottom because that part she’ll push away part of the material and lay on the plastic when she gets warm.

I use sisal mats as a floor for my bun’s pen.
