I’m re-building Mimzy’s condo since the one she’s in right now doesn’t seem sufficient enough. I’m doing a different layout though but I’m having trouble with the ramp. I have a 3×2 NIC condo and I would like ramps but I don’t know how long to make the ramps…how steep is too steep?

I’m thinking a ramp around 23″ or so would work well if I put her second level right where the first 2 NIC grids meet. But then I feel like it’s not tall enough? (if it’s tall enough, please say so!) Otherwise, I was wanting the second level to be just a little higher than where the 2 grids meet, and this is where I’m stuck. The higher I make it, the longer her ramp will have to be. If anyone can just post some pics of their bunny’s ramps and dimensions of it, it would be appreciated!!

Also, how wide should the ramp be? Thanks!

Rabbits can’t navigate up very steep ramps and I don’t think that footprint will be large enough to have a ramp at an adequate angle. Can you make the base larger than a 3×2, at least a 4×2? Does your rabbit have difficulty jumping? For most buns, a ramp isn’t necessary. They can usually jump the height of a NIC grid (14 inches) unless there is some type of mobility issue.

I agree with Beka27, my steepest ramp is only one cube high, although most of mine dont use their ramps, the littler ones still do like cinnamon who races up and down his for fun. it also helps if it is covered with something they can use for footking like carpet, or wooden blocks as steps.

I agree with building a 2×4 cage instead. A 2×3 cage actually is below the caging requirements and isn’t suitable for any rabbit.

What do you mean by 3×2? I have a cage thag was built with 3cubes long, 2 cubes wide and 4 cubes tall. I have ramps that are in there for her. She was too small when we first built it to jump from level to level. The ramp is really wide to make sure she doesn’t fall. It’s almost a good foot wide and I put little wooden planks as tread for her to grip on.

3×2 as in 3 cubes long & 2 cubes wide, 4 cubes tall. Sorry if it sounded like I meant feet :/

I’ve seen quite a few people with that size condo. I wanted a ramp because she has linoleum flooring & thought maybe it would be easier/safer. I’ll probably just try & make it very low. Otherwise, I’ll just make it so she can jump if I have to.

Yeah, linoleum can be pretty slippery! I have ramps on both of my condo’s that have linoleum in it! the ramps are about 6 1/2 inches and my bunnies are about 6lbs. and it works great for them!

BTW: I didn’t mean to seem mean or snap at you in my last post! I looked back and it kind of looked like that’s what I was doing. I am sorry! I meant to say that most people recommend a 2×4 cage but some rabbits are fine in a 2×3. Just wanted to clear that up! Sometimes it is hard to understand people over the internet.

See how I put a shelf where the two grids meet?  Is that what you meant by putting the shelf where the grids meet?  It should work and do well.   And if you can’t tell there is about a 12 inch gap for a landing and the size of the hole is about a foot around.  We did our ramp pretty long.  Skipper seems to do fine with it.

I think those cubes are only 14 inches aren’t they so 2 cubes are about 2 feet approximately.

Mocha- oh it’s fine! It’s a little hard to tell in text so it’s ok I made some changes to her floor so I think the ramp should do just fine!

Skipper- just like yours! Her second level is going to be all the way across though. I think ive actually been using yours as somewhat a guideline, I mentioned to you before about really liking it!

Btw, mimzy is free run whenever I’m home which is usually from mon-fri all day

I would love to make her condo larger if I could but I can’t soon as I have more space, that’s what she’s getting hehe. Thanks everyone!

Haha I’m so sorry I’m such a space case! I had totally forgotten. xD I was actually planning on making her fourth level all the way across too! =D What I did for the ramp was honestly take a plank of wood and cut it to the width I wanted and attached the hinges onto it before attaching it to the level. Then I could see how much needed to be cut off just in case I didn’t cut too much. What I was planning to do for the level straight across was make stairs for that level just because of the steepness of the angle.

I wanted to do stairs but I don’t know if I’m that crafty xP I was hoping to have her condo done by tonight but a few things didn’t go as planned, which happens often with me :/ oh well! I guess it’s better when it’s not rushed & done right well I measured out the ramp, I kind of wish I did it the way you did though! Why didn’t I think of that =\

It’s okay! Honestly it was done out of tired/lazyness. We had worked all day in the hot sun and were exhausted by the time we got to ramps. xD And it’s okay about the stairs! I’m not crafty at all. I can do the math of the project but don’t ask me to build it. I have to rely on my bf and his brother-in-law to build my imaginings.
