I hate my house. We can't fix it up because we don't own it and we can't afford to anyway.

The rabbit's bedroom has this icky old carpet in it. I really don't care that they dig it up except that I keep getting strings caught in the vacuum (and then I have to shut it off to get it untangled from the roller brush). We tore up the carpet in the living room years ago. Unfortunately, the people who put the carpet in decided it was okay to pour glue all over the hardwood floors. I really want to pull the carpet up in the rabbit room and just get a cheap rug to go in there. I'm worried though. What if they start licking or chewing at the glue. Would it hurt them? I have absolutely no clue what kind of glue it is and there really is no way to find out. Thoughts?

if i were in your situation.. i would be worried aswell.. 

if the carpet is dingy and gross but you're worried about the glue..

i suggest putting a new rug/carpet OVER the existing carpet.. it'll look somewhat better and its just safer all around.

LBJ, I don't think it's worth risking, pulling the carpet up. It also sounds like a lot of work if you were to attempt removing the glue.

An ultra short pile carpet laid over existing could work. You might find a large "end of roll" piece at a good price. Or get something suitable thru freecycle that can be cleaned up.
Alternatively, some heavy sheet linoleum or sub floor base material used on top instead perhaps?
