I know this is going to seem like a strange question, but are glass water bottles “healthier” for rabbits?

I know with food dishes it’s best to stay away from plastic because they can get scratched up and grow bacteria.

So I was just wondering, won’t it be the same with water bottles?

Idk, but they don’t warp and need to be replaced about yearly like the plastic ones do. They also don’t have the risk of leeching toxins form the plastic into the water. When I did use water bottles, I used glass ones.

However, bowls are still a better option for offering water to your rabbits. It is a more natural position for them to drink, it is easier to clean a bowl thoroughly, and it take less time to fill up a bowl than a bottle. Plus it is silent when your rabbit decides to drink in the middle of the night, especially if their cage is under your bed!

Agree with KytKattin…ceramic bowls are the best option. Another reason is that a water bottle can hold a lot of water and you might not need refill it very often and the water won’t be fresh. A bowl will need to be filled daily (sometimes a couple times as with my bunny) so they will get cool fresh water more often Definately think about how quiet a water dish is verses a waterbottle…losing sleep from a bunny is NO fun…that is if they sleep in your room

At this point, with all the veggies she gets, I have never seen Nova drink from her water bowl. I honestly think it is because she gets so much water with her greens, she just doesn’t really need it. Plus there is always some water left over in her bowl of greens, and that makes it special, flavored water, so I think she would be more likely to drink that. Yay for water drenched veggies!

Molly ususally doesn’t drink ALL of her water, but she ends up getting hay or sometimes the stray poop in it so I have to clean it several times a day lol

Plastic can grow bacteria, yes, so probably more healthy/ cleaner to get a glass one. But I use bowls for both my buns, they like it better and it’s easier / quieter.

I agree with everyone. And Pablo drink about half a big bowl a day. And he also get hay in it, ugh

Thanks everyone. I’ll try bowls. I have some nice glass bowls I use for their veggies that I wash once a week. I can get more of them and use those. They are nice and big.
