I got four baby bunnies almost two weeks ago, theyre 9 weeks old. We are working on litter training but they keep peeing on the wood floors in their xpen. Rabbit pee ruins the wood floors and theres 4 spots that are ruined. So I got those foam mats that children use as floor play mats then covered it with a canvas drop cloth. They stuck their butt on the edge of the xpen and the pee soaked through the canvas onto the floor and my mom is now threatening to put them outside or get rid of them. I love my bunnies and I dont want that to happen. What can I do to keep the wood floors safe so I dont have to lose my bunnies?

They do tend to pick corners to pee in so it's to be expected at the edges of the cage, you can buy urine guards or maybe check if you can buy some coroplast in the size of your pen, most companies will score it so that the edges fold up to prevent spills but the bent part is still sealed. (try guineapigcagesstore.com, they sell the coroplast bases alone).

The problem will also get better once they are speutered since that helps a lot with litter training.

Beautiful bunnies. Well, first of you have to get them neutered as soon as your vet says it is okay (my vet says 4 months but it is different from vet to vet). They will not stop marking until then.

Right now they are too small to neuter, so how about putting newspapers out on the floor or even that kind of cardboard which is used to protect the floor while painting? It is quite thick.

Also, make sure you keep their hay and food in the litterboxes so they have a reason to go there. How many litterboxes do you have?

I will get them spayed and neutered as soon as the vet gives the okay. News papers wont help, it soaks through. Thats why i have those painters drop cloths on top of foam mats to try and keep that from happening. Theyre pretty good with the litter box in their cage but when theyre in the pen they arent so good. They have 2 large cat sized litter boxes and their food and hay is there. Should I just cover the floors in coroplast then put on the foam mats then the drop cloth?

The coroplast will be enough to keep the floor safe, but the buns will probably appreciate the mats and blanket because it will give them more grip and they can play with the blanket

I now have plastic on the bottom, then two set of sheets, then the foam floor mats, then a canvas tarp on top. Think the floors *should* be safe now
