Hi everyone!! Thank you in advance for all of your help on this matter!! My 4 year old mini-rex, Cupcake, has always been very good with her litter box. I never had a problem with her “going” outside of it. Lately though, she has been peeing everywhere!! She hangs out in my living room, whch has hardwood floor (that she hates) but I have rugs down so she can walk all over. She has now ruined my large decoative rug. I have a pen in the living room also for her (with carpet underneath). She has her food, water, hay, litter box, toys and a hidey box in the pen (and she still has room to move). She has places to run and places to relax and hide….but I dont know what to do about the peeing!! I am taking her to the vet tomorrow because lately I have noticed her hopping weird. She used to jump up on the couch if given the chance and now she wont do that. She walks more than hops right now. Could it be a UTI?? I just dont know what to do inside her pen. i had the carpet, but she peed on that. I cleaned the carpet and put towels down on top of it, but she peed on those. There are a few stray poops here and there, but its mostly pee thats everywhere. When I go to clean her pen, she stares at me and stomps loudly (which I actually find funny)…..but I’m drowning in rabbit pee!! Any suggestions??

Well, I’m of the opinion that when a rabbit starts acting abnormal, there is usually a reason. If she’s usually good about not peeing outside the box and all of a sudden is peeing all over, I suggest a trip to the vet. That is a symptom of urinary/bladder problems.

Is she drinking more than normal? Is she eating and pooping okay? Do you ever notice her hunching, like she’s straining to pee?

Thats what i was thinking, but i wasnt entirely sure. She is such an easy girl, then all of a sudden, shes being a little stinker! He pee did smell a bit different also, so thats why i though of a UTI. She has been drinking more, but seems to be eating and pooping the same. i dont think she is hunching over like shes straining to pee, but she has been hopping differently, which made me think something hurt “down there.” I have an appointment with the vet tomorrow, so hopefully he can figure it out!!

I am having similar problems with my buns — Please let me know what they say at your appt, one of my brats may be due for an appt. I also can’t figure out what triggered this outrage of peeing everywhere but something sure did! All 3 of them have been doing it — but someone is specifically doing it inside their bunny condo also which I thought wasn’t going to ever be a problem anymore. UGH.

Good luck with your girl at the vet though! And I sure hope it’s an easy fix for you!

Thank you everyone!! Her appointment is at 2 today. I talked with one of the techs yesterday and get this….she told me to “take her litter box away and try not to let her urinate before the appointment tomorrow….” I really thought that was funny because there is no stopping the stream of pee coming from my little nugget!! she peed on my rug again twice this morning…and me last night! I could see her point because they want enough urine to get a good sample…but realy!?!?! I’ll let you know how it goes, Tanlover I am going to ask my vet about the Oxbow Urinary Health “cookies” also….anyone give them to your bunns??

Thanks! I’ve never heard of those — let me know what your vet thinks about them!

Cupcake is on the mend…but she did indeed, have a UTI. He said this was making her hop strangely because it hurt “down there.” So I’m releaved that there isnt something wrong with her bones, etc. She is on meds now that she takes like a champ! Tanlover, I would suggest bringing your little one in…my vet “made” her pee so he could check her urine. (but this was after she peed on me and her blanket twice!) She was a very good girl though and hopefully she will feel better soon!

I’m glad she is on her way to feeling better! For bunny accidents, a pet stain remover and a steam cleaner works miracles…
