hi i have a 6 week old rabbit my friends gave me 2 weeks ago named pipkin. pipkin so far has been an awesome rabbit, normally running over to me and looking for cuddles, and will spend an aweful lot of time licking my hands. i got him a clicker today and was teaching him to come to his name and rewarding him with a rasin, like ive seen on videos on you tube. the problem started after this later on when i went to check on him. he started lunging at my hand and biting me. there was no reason for it then after he nipped me he climbed on my lap and snuggled up into the crease of my arm. when he got down again every time he seen my hand hed lunge at it and  nipped it, then he would stand there, sometimes licking my hand again others rubbing up against it. i’m trying not to jerk away when he nips as i dont want to hurt him or for him to start thinking if i dont want her here i’ll start biting her. but i want to nip it in the bub before he gets bigger and can actually cause me some damage, as he is going to be one big rabbit. i’m worried hes associated my hands with food now as he was fine before the clicker session earlier. any help or suggestions would be wonderful  i want my awesome bunny back. i now think ive made a big mistake trying to train him like this.

          A couple of thoughts..
Is he biting you hard? Or is he just putting his teeth on you? I know you say he’s lunging, but is he forcefully lunging at you?

Rabbits will use their mouths to get our attention and tell us they want something (or to tell us to move). If he isn’t doing it hard, he may just be trying to get your attention. Maybe he thinks you have another raisin for him.

If he is biting hard, it still may not be aggression. He might be doing the above, but not realizing he is biting hard. Have you tried squealing when he does it so he knows he is hurting you?

So he is 6 weeks right now? And you got him 2 weeks ago? That is a bit young. That could be the cause of his communication problems because he didn’t have enough time to learn from mom.

i was beining to think that especailly with all the licking hes been doing like hes trying to get a drink.  but the guy we got him off said he was weened and ready to go. i didnt try the squealing, that seems like a good idea ill give that a go. no its not hard just shocking. maybe he is looking for another rasin. so ill stop using them to try and train him and see if he stops this. as for the lunging for such a small bunny it seemed really agressive and i even got a little grunt. my husband recokons he was protesting to the fact he hasnt had broccoli today. my mate pointed out that i have cats and he hasnt met them yet. and that i might have touched one before going into him and he didnt like the strange smell. so to train train him to come then hes called what should i use, or how should i go about it?

I don’t have a ton of experience with training to come when called since one of my buns is deaf.

How often are you calling him and giving him a treat? If he’s that young, too many treats wouldn’t be good for him anyway. Does he like other things, like being petted? If he likes his pellets, you could use pellets too.

I stopped giving him raisins and he’s hasn. Tried to nip or Lunge at me again. I think you guys were right and he was just after another raisin. He’s back to his dippy self

Glad to hear you’ve solved the problem. From my experience, most bunnies growl while lunging/biting when it’s true aggression.

When I first got my bunny she was so young and so little she use to nip me all the time after a month passed she just grew out and stopped and i did the high pitched screetch everytime she did it. So far she’s only nipped me once in 2 months and that was because i was sitting infront of her cage door and she wanted to get out lol
p.s your bun is soooo cute (the one in your dp right?)
