I am a new bunny owner and i have no clue how to read my bunny yet! help! Ive had Basil for a week. I think shes a couple months old and everytime i get her out of the cage she nibbles me like crazy..like tonight i got home from work and put her on my bed with me and she would nibble my hand, arm, anything that got close to her mouth. She had timothy hay, plenty water and food. I fed her a little bit of carrots too..WHY is she nibbling me? i dont mind but sometimes it hurts. Also when i come in she almost pounces to the side of the cage closet to where the door sits and i adknowledge her and then shes fine and goes back to being a bunny. Any thoughts?

im new to being a bunny slave too
the only time Dakota nips me is when im in her way, but its usually after 1 or 2 nudges to move
i know a big thing to remove alota aggression is to get her fixed
what you could try next time she bites you is shreek , it might scare her n could run into her cage but its the noise rabbits associate with fear and pain

Baby buns like to “taste test” things. It is how they learn Try the high pitched noises when she nibbles you, so she learns you aren’t for chewing

I tried the high pitched shriek when Wolfie use to nip me when I first got her (as advised by binkybunny posters) and she use to stop and look at me and carry on and after doing it loads of times and jumping she’s now stopped and only licks me…. but NONSTOP

Sounds like she’s a typical young bunny who wants to taste everything. The yelping thing can work. So can ignoring – if she nibbles you, walk away and turn your back (preferably somewhere she can’t follow you, like the other side of a baby gate). Give it 20sec or so, then go back to giving her attention. Rinse and repeat. Most buns grow out of this period pretty quickly.

Bunnies can be like cats in that it’s often hard to tell if they really “love” you or not. They’re often not outwardly affectionate (though some are), but I’m confident you’ll both get more comfortable with each other over time and form a great bond. One of my two is pretty aloof and doesn’t like pets, but we’ve worked out our own relationship.

Someone on here posted this link recently: http://language.rabbitspeak.com/

I’ve been a rabbit owner for 8 years and that article taught me even more about how to speak and understand rabbit language! Both my rabbits were adopted. One was 1 yr old at the time; the other was 2. I have no idea how the babies work! I did do the really loud, high pitched squeal to teach them not to bite/nibble. If they still did it, they got put in bunny jail (rabbit cage vs running around the room).

Since your bunny has not been with you for a while, it will take a while for your bunny to get adjusted to its new surroundings, and also its human. Rabbit’s can take a while to warm up and start trusting. Their true personality eventually shines through and it is amazing. My only advice is that it takes time for a rabbit to adjust and trust.

Cinnabun still nibbles at me, a year after I brought her home. Mostly it’s cause my hand is in the way and she’s informing me that I need to move it. But sometimes it’s also a little love nibble. I agree with everyone else: give it time.

Dizzie nibbles me if I am ignoring her. The worst is in the morning when I am tring to get ready for work….or when I am preparing their veggies. I think its an attention thing for her. I do have to yelp sometimes and then she stops, so I think thats the best thing. They get “in the zone” when it comes to making you give them what they need, so a little yelp takes them out of that mindset. A little yelp never hurt anyone
