I got JoJo about a month ago… she is 5 months old.  Couple days ago I noticed strange behavior she runs around my legs and she squirts pee on my legs and all around her.  The minute I let her out my livingroom office and half of the house is covered in pee, she jumps with her tushie up in the air makes a circle and everything is being sprayed…  What can I do? What should I do?

By the way I’m not sure if it’s a girl because the lady at the pet store wasn’t so sure, she said “I think it’s a female, it’s hard to tell, I’m not really sure”.

        Any suggestions??

As for the breed I was told it’s Holland Lop but they were not so sure abouth that cause first I was told that it’s Mini Lop…. I didn’t care, “she” was soooooo cute.

        Please help me…

Time to have her altered. It’s hormones kicking in.  Oh, and the actions sound more like a male bunny than a female one.

Definitely time for speutering. I also agree that this sounds more like male behavior, but females have been known to act like this too. A vet will be able to tell you whether she’s a she or a he.

Both sexes can act like… well… overly amorous teenage boys once those hormones kick in. Do you have a rabbit vet yet?

That is VERY expensive. Where do you live? The average price that I’ve seen people posting about has been about $200. I would call more rabbit savvy vets in the area and get some different prices. I have just gotten in contact with my local humane society and they are sending me a voucher for $70 for male, $100 for female, and it is done at a local vet, 2 that I can choose from and both rabbit savvy.

I agree, $600 is quite a lot. I paid almost $400 for a neuter and I thought that was at the high end of the range. I would look for $200-400 as a more reasonable price.

Hi, welcome here. I would let a vet do a check up first and determine the sex. Then look at getting JoJo fixed. Neuters are a bit cheaper than spays. Agreed, $600 is way up there!! The good news is that this is a pretty temporary behaviour in rabbits. Your rabbit loves you! By circling and spraying, it is claiming you.

I live in New Jersey, and I called 3 vets the cheapest was $600 but I would have to drive there for over an hour. The one for $600 is 5 min from my house. I just hope that if I decide to do the procedure the peeing will stop.

He/she has been claiming me for the past 5 days, my husband got some love too… lol

by the way if it’s a girl the vet asked me for $800      (hoping JoJo is a boy)

                          $800 ?

Well here’s the house rabbit society’s list for NJ vets in case you haven’t seen it.  http://www.njhrs.com/vet.htm

I thought there also was a mention of a low cost neuter/spay program for NJ recently…

Wow! That’s a lot! I had to pay $500 for a spay, and I thougt THAT was a lot. But at least it is only once in a bunny life-time you need this done. And it is well worth the money!

Fingers crossed, you have a boy. My girl turned out to be a boy, which was a huge relief, because it is a simpler procedure and not as expensive. Not that it actually made a difference ’cause 2 months later, I brought home a female and then I had to pay for a spay anyhow

Not sure where in Jersey you are, but I would look into vets in Westchester, CT, or PA. I live in CT and while it’s expensive here, at least it’s only $400. I think driving 1.5 hours would be worth it to not pay $600-800. Those prices are pretty insane.

And I want to really recommend you go through with it. Females who aren’t spayed have a really high rate of reproductive cancers by the age of 2 or 3 – spaying her will more than likely extend her life by 5+ years. Also, this behavior is unlikely to stop – she might just get in the habit of doing it if her hormones are never taken care of.

There is a low-cost NJ spay/neuter program, but I unfortunately CANNOT find the details! Does someone remember who posted about it?!

Check out google – “Neuter Programs Buffalo, NY” or whatever semi-major town you are in/near.
