Did she look at his teeth to estimate if he was an older bunny?      Or did she just say because his kidneys were giving out attributed to old age? 

IF he truly is an elderly bun then here are some links to help you out.  But if he is suffering from something else that is causing kidney failure then, of course, that is a different story.

I forgot to answer you last question about how to add  an avatar:

• On the forum page - On the upper right hand corner below "Your forum leaders are BinkyBunny",  click on "My Profile". 
• That will take you to your profile area.
• Then in the profile area, towards the bottom, click on "Edit Profile"   From there you can upload you're avatar, and profile pic, enter info, delete email notification if so desired (though your actual email address is hidden)
• Avatar is what will show on the forum by your name. 
• Profile pic is only seen when people click on your member name.

Thanks so much. I don't remember the vet being overly confident in her diagnosis. She just put it down to that as she was losing weight, drinking a lot and was old. Not sure what else to do. But I will read those links you've provided. Thanks for your help. I've attached a photo of my bunny ziggy, it's a classic!

Also thanks for the avatar help, that bunny is Jasper, the one who is now looking not so good. He loves flowers!

AWWW, your bunnies are gorgeous.  I can put them in the gallery if you'd like.    I can take the larger picture directly from your post, but the avatar picture is too small for me to put the gallery, so you'd have to send it to me.

Regarding the other issue, after reading and researching, if you feel like it might not be old age, but something else, you might seek out another vet or ask that vet how she knows it's due to old age.  

What does your gut feeling say about this so far?

 

 

Hi Anne,

Our vet recommends doing a full blood work up to check the elderly buns.  We have quite a few with incontinent and mobility issues.  The test can really help gauge if anything alarming is going on internally.  We lost a precious bun due to kidney disease not long ago so I have been vigilant on getting a physical on them once a year.  We have two buns that need washing at least every other day and we apply some cream to help with the chafing.  I wish there was an easy answer so hang in there!

I'm sorry to hear about your loss.   Sounds like you are really bunny lovers and take care of your bunnies well.   I have a bunny who has a crooked spine (vet said either it's genetic or an old injury from before I adopted her)  and it keeps her from being able to completely clean herself.  So I am an old hat at bum cleaning too.

What kind of problems do your other bunnies have that require washing?

Thanks! The only time i wash jasper is if he starts to smell or gets the runs. Otherwise a brush of his coat everyday does most of the maintenance at this stage. The only other time i've washed any of my other bunnies is if they've had the runs. Otherwise they do the job themselves!
