I was just walking my dog and she chased 2 little baby rabbits (almost ate this one in fact). One was white and the one I could catch was grey. They are for sure domesticated breed rabbits, I didn't just take a wild rabbit. They are quite common around here and have been culled before so I did not want this one to have the same misfortune!

It was pouring rain so the little thing is quite wet, he also has matted fur and poop stuck on his bum. He seems quite content to be picked up and is not skittish.

I have another rabbit, so I am trying to keep this little one quarentined, in case he has anything. What should I feed him? I have never had a baby bunny in my care before.

Hay and pellets should be fine just like you're own bun. I am assuming that if they are out and about they are on solid food. Most buns start on solid food at 4 weeks and suckle off mum also until about 8 weeks.

I got Pepper and Piglet from a backyard free range rescue when they were only tiny and they took to hay immediately as well as pellets and sweet basil.

What country and area are you in ?(no specific addresses please)

He is definitely over 8 weeks, young definitely.

Then lots of hay and pellets... Maybe just a few light greens.

What should I do about his fur? It's all matted and pee-ey and is matted with poop around his bum. I know a lot about rabbits, but have never been in this situation before!

Personally, if it can be left I would let him settle for a few hours or a day. If it is really bad, can you trim the fur away from round his bottom ? or if its really bad rinse it off gently ? I wouldn't try washing all of him as that could send him into shock but my Blossom tolerates being bunrito'd and having just her bottom held under a gently running tap.

It is VERY fragrant. I might actually get some unscented pet shampoo tomorrow. I know you shouldn't really give them a full bath, but his belly is covered in pee and poop, I live in a very rainy place, so it has been wet for a few days at least.

On another note, this little guy is not scared of humans at all and has been playing and chewing on some toys I have put in his pen.

I saw your pictures of it in the other thread. For it to be dirty and smelly from faeces and urine, it makes me think they've been kept in crowded and poor conditions. Maybe they've recently escaped or been released?
Is it now producing healthy looking rabbit poos? Or wet and smelly?

Is the other rabbit still roaming?
