I was reading online about eye boogers and I guess the ones my bunny has are called sleepies. What are sleepies, what causes them, and can they effect my bunny in a bad way? Please help!

I don't think they are bad - I think it is much like a humans. I think, but I may be wrong, it is just the dust and bits of dirt etc that get in your eyes throughout the day washing themselves out. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will come along and let us know!

like what IsabellaRobyn said - It's normal if it's just a little hard piece, (though you may find it before it hardens). It's like what humans get. Usually bunnies groom it off themselves eventually. When I had two bunnies, they would clean it off each other. It's the way eyes keep themselves moist during sleep I think and prevents tears from escaping out, (via this oil secretion) and then it catch dust, etc and begins to wash away as we wake up and "blink". They can turn hard, and if they don't come off easy from your bunny, you can get a damp warm cloth and gently wipe them away.

If the goobers in the eye though are excessive then that's when it can indicate something else. But it sound normal at this point.

Haha! I can't help but laugh -- I saw one on my bun not that long ago and had a near heart attack that something was wrong with him. I watched his eyes like a hawk for like a week to make sure I didn't see another one!

'sleepies' is just a synonym for 'eye boogers', and everyone has described them well so far. No cause for alarm. I just want to add that my bunnies and others I've read about here seem to like it when I gently remove them. It's like they take it as a grooming gesture and let me. I think it makes them feel better and feel cared for as well. But do use warm cloth if it's too hard to come off easily. My vet once thought she saw a little scratch at the tip of Sammy's eye, and I was afraid I had unknowingly done that with a fingernail while taking off a hard, dried sleepy.

RabbitPam - I wipe away Belle's too and she tooth purrs while I do it like she does when I'm stroking her head so I agree I think they do quite like the gesture!

I ditto everyone here. Even the dog gets them occasionally. Just gently remove with your finger. If they are stuck on, use a warm wet towel. If they are bigger or wetter or making tears, that may need to be looked at and may be an eye infection or injury.
