Ok. So today I made $12 working, and we are going to the store(Walmart). I want to buy 3 kinds of veggies for Panda♥ What are some good semi-cheap veggies? I am now starting to realize how important veggies are. I need very healthy ones. I don’t want to spend my FULL 12 dollars, but if I have to, I will  I kinda want to save $5 for a tunnel for Panda. So lists of veggies that are O.K. to feed are apreciated  We are leaving in about 1 hour to go to the store so hurry

I think most kinds of lettuce (but not iceberg lettuce), italian parsley, cilantro to name just a few. If you have a few minutes the BB Website and House Rabbit Society websites have a larger list of what greens you can feed the buns. If bunny has not had vegetables before, I think you are supposed to introduce them one at a time to be sure the bunnies stomach do not have a problem. (More info on that under diet on the websites.)   If you go the markets often, it is better to buy  more often than to stock up and keep them over a week or so. Hope this helps.

Romaine is generally pretty affordable. Cilantro and parsley are generally affordable as well.

Arugula is going to be too expensive.

Collard greens are pretty cheap. Never have had any myself, but the bunnies love them. Dandelion greens too. (In the summer we just pick them from our land).

Yes, Bumblebunny makes a good point. You want to introduce one at a time. I would start with a lettuce like Romaine – it’s true any leaf lettuce other than iceberg is fine but I find that Romaine is easy to find and it seems to stay fresher longer.

I second Sarita and Bumblebunny, my vet recommended to start with romaine because she said it usually works well with bunny tummies. Maybe you could start with that and save the money for another time? Has your bunny eaten any veggies before?

                          At wal-mart I bought –

1 batch of cilantro $0.88, 1 batch of parsley $0.98, 1 batch of mustard greens $0.98, 1 batch of bok choy $1.39 – veggies don’t have to be super expensive and you should be able to get plenty for that. I would just buy a couple of things for now, since anything new has to be introduced slowly. Maybe some parsley and some romaine and introduce the romaine, then after a few days introduce the parsley if the romaine goes well. Prices will vary by area, but usually the greens are pretty cheap.

Edit: If you go to a store that carries carrots with the tops sometimes they’ll let you take the spare tops for free too.

I’ve never thought about that. Has anyone ever had an experience where this has caused problems in their rabbits?

Strings in celery? Oh yeah. Not personally, but some bunnies coming through the rescue or the humane society, and even my vet have had issues with it.

Well I guess I’ll be cutting up the celery from now on!

I have always peeled my celery (I don’t feed it to my buns) because I hate the strings. Peeling it makes it taste better in my opinion too. And my mom always peeled celery…I guess it’s just how I thought it should be eaten.

I am kind of wondering if celery even is good for buns because it soaks up so much water. Any thoughts?
