My holland lop Odie is approaching six months of age and he only weighs 1.9 lbs.... doesn't this seem too small?? He has hay constantly and gets a variety of greens daily and gets 1/8 cup of pellets a day. Should I be worried about this?

No, that sounds about right for a Holland Lop. |

Hollands are generally 2-4lbs, so while that's on the small end, it sounds fine (just as you can find hollands over 4lbs, you can find some under 2lbs as well). At that age he's mostly done growing, but he may fill out and put on a few ounces as he ages. You could increase his pellets. The House Rabbit Society recommends unlimited pellets at that age. When my holland was 6 months he wasn't getting unlimited anymore, but I think I was feeding at least 1/4 cup. Now at 3 years old he gets 1/8 cup. |

He'll probably fill out a bit more as he gets older, but sounds about right. My Squirrel got a lot more solid as he neared the 1 year mark |

To be honest, I think your bun looks well and not under fed. Yes that is on the small side, but I think the 2 to 4 pounds is just a range. As with humans, it really all depends on each individual bun. Some obviously may weigh more and some less. Yours looks smaller than my Holland Lop so I am not surprised that he weighs less. I think you have to factor in their size as well and it seems just fine to me for your buns size. As far as food though I would suggest you increase his pellet intake. I believe it should be around 1/4 cup of pellets a day. And when they are young unlimited amounts. My Toby right now gets unlimited because he's only 3 months. When he gets older I'll cut back to a measured amount each day depending on his weight. But for now I would double his pellets to 1/4 c a day instead of 1/8c. This will probably help him get to the 2 pound mark which would be inside the suggested weight range |

Thanks guys! The vet also said I should substitute alfalfa hay for timothy which could help him fill out. She also said he looked fine and will probably only fill out and not grow much more. |

My little holland is 2.5 years old and baaaarely 2.5 lbs, and I'm sure a lot of that is his meatiness so who knows how much he weighed at only 6 months He's very adorable and sounds just right! |
