Bunny puzzle play mat – the floor is lava :P

We have a big livingroom, which my bunnies get access to big parts of the day. We have a puzzle play mat from when my sister was a baby, and I took it down from the loft for the bunnies to play on, and now they have their own play area in one end of the living room. They have a cardboard box they like to play in and a few snack balls etc and they like it a lot. But the thing is, they never leave the mat! even though they have access to the entire living room. The floor is parquet, and i think it might be because they find it uncomfortable to walk on.. Any thoughts?

My first rabbit would not walk on a slick floor. I kept her in the kitchen and she wouldn’t go to the living room when free, unless I made a pathway with towels (the kitchen was tiled and she would stay in her area with her cage and surrounding towels). It was so cute. She would step on the first towel, while I laid the second, then the second while I laid the third, etc. My rabbit now doesn’t mind at all, but he does walk all 007 style (like he is sneaking around) when he is on a slick floor. Try some extra towels and mats. That will help them to expand their boundaries!

I have hardwood in most of my house. One of my bunnies WILL NOT walk on the hardwood floors, so i have rug “bridges” for her to walk on. My other one is ok with the hardwood, but prefers carpet. I also have those mats, but they are colored. They work really well in Dizzie’s room. (that is where she is when we are gone for the day). Its comfy for her and she has some traction. She doesnt chew on it either

TH — soo funny. My buns will NOT walk on tile. At all. They are TERRIFIED of it. Too funny.

They just may not like the feeling of it or are scared of the difference in feeling. My buns are always attempting to conquer the kitchen tile but haven’t mustered up the courage to do it yet ;P
