One of our bunny’s eyes is runny. I noticed a couple weeks ago there was just a little bit of clear wattery discharge in one of her eyes. I thought it would just clear up on its own. However the last couple days it seemed to get worse. The discharge is still clear wattery but there is more discharge than before. The fur around the eye looks wet. What could possibly cause that?

I am planning to take her to a vet tomorrow. We dont have a bunny vet yet. I searched online for local vet clinics but didnt see any of them saying they see bunnies. We live in Bellingham, WA 98226.

If you go back to the Q&A Forum list, at the top you will see 2 posts with red push pins marking them. Those have lists of vets to find in your area, usually by zip code. The way to locate a local vet in your phone book is to look under “exotics” vets, rather than just cats and dogs. Often they work with birds as well as bunnies.

It could be several things, a blocked duct or a tooth problem, so it’s good that you’re taking her in. If you aren’t happy with the vet’s response, check out a second opinion with an exotics vet.

Definitely good you’re taking her. Teeth problems are a common cause of runny eyes and they can only be fixed by a vet. I’m sure there are rabbit savvy vets in your area. If you have to take her to a non-rabbit vet, definitely ask for a recommendation. A dog/cat vet won’t have the expertise to fix something like tooth issues.

eta: I did a quick Google search and it looks like Fairhaven Vet Hospital specializes in exotics.

I wanted to let you know what the vet said. He said most likely it is Pasteurella and gave us antibiotics.

I’m so glad you saw the vet. That needs treatment and you’re getting it done. Hope you start to see a recovery in a few days.
