Well, Dr. wants to keep her another night. I am so upset. She's not eating and they have to syringe feed her and they want to make sure things are ok with her, so its best they keep her. She looks so out of it...she's still on pain meds. They also found out she has pinworms! They tested her poop a long time ago, and they didn't find it, so not sure if she's had them forever or not. My poor baby. I pet her for half an hour there. She's in a heated cage w/her little bed and she looks comfy, but she wouldn't eat even her treats or parsley Dr. said she is fine though, and she did well with the syringe feeding.
I hope she gets to come home tomorrow. I'm so worried about more complications. I took off of work on Monday, but hope she's ok by Tuesday.
I cried when I saw her. The put this vaseline like substance around her eyes for the surgery, and it was all wacky and greasy and didn't look the same. I kind of made it better w/pets though. Well please keep her in your thoughts.

So, they started syringe feeding her after a couple of hours after the surgery? That was quick. Molly didn't eat before the evening on the day after...and only a little bit. I was told that was fine, and that they didn't expect her to eat on the same day after surgery. She didn't want to eat hay or pellets, but only basil and other herbs, so I think it is important to try out different types of treats and foods before deciding that the bunny won't eat.

I hope you will have her back soon! It sounds like they are taking very good care of her.

For surgery they put ointment in the pets eyes to protect them since they cannot blink while under anesthesia- and the body temp "melts" the ointment.  It keeps the eyes moist and protected while they are under and during recovery.  You could wipe her eyes (whe will close them) with a warm, wet washcloth- just be sure not to get her wet- just a damp washcloth will do.  But it is common that it can make the eyes look like that.

I am so sorry to hear that she has to spend another night- but at least she is getting good care and you don't have to be the "bad guy" for force feeding her.  I know you would rather have your baby home with you though.  A spay is like a human woman gettng a hysterectomy- many people don't think of it that way- but the technical term for a spay is an ovariohysterectomy (includes the ovaries also).  That is why I don't like clinics that don't require pain meds for spays (cat, dog or rabbit)- my clinic does and it is not optional it is included in the price.

My female- Cotton (my avatar) was much slower to recover than my boy (Griffin)- but I am glad that your vet obviously must monitor each patient closely before discharging them to go home- that is a better scenario than sending a pet home that is not ready.

((Feel better soon vibes for Buster))

Sorry. Missed a post

Really don't worry too much about her, although it is difficult, I know. It sounds like they know exactly what to do. They sound like devoted vets.

Just make sure you have lots of nice food waiting for her tomorrow. She will be just as happy to see you as you will be

They do sound like Excellent and on top of it Rabbit vets. Girls DO look terrible after a spay and that vaseline stuff for their eyes can freak you out ( It surely did freak ME out)

But her care really sounds top notch.

Healing vibes for Buster!

Thanks everyone. I'm really trying hard not to think about it...some wine and cooking is helping. Just hope this night goes quick and she's ok tomorrow. It's so tough. The vet was left a note to call me, but she hasn't yet...just to give me an update. There phone lines are closed now, and I dont want to page them.

Anyone have pinworm experience too? I'm so shocked about that too. They are giving me meds for her for that.

I'm a little bit late to the update... but I agree, it sounds like your vet is on top of things and is being overly cautious, which is great! Spaying is hard on girl's even tho it is technically a routine surgery, it's invasive, so it isn't uncommon for them to not want to eat or move around for 24-48 hours post-surgery. As far as the pinworms, I don't have experience with that. Is the vet giving you a script for that?

She's home and grooming in her cage and ate a bunch of her parsley & drinking water! I'm going to try to clean her eyes a bit.  They sent me home w/metacam and pinworm meds that I don't need to give her for 2 weeks.  She said giver her metacam once a day 3-5 days and keep her in the cage for 3 days.  Tuesday, I have to go back to work though. Hope she's ok.

Glad she's better! I once rescued a rabbit from a shelter who had pinworms - I think we did panacur for that and it took care of it - you will have to go back for a stool recheck though to confirm the pinworms are gone.

Vet said I wouldn't have to go for a recheck...she will be fine after that. I found it strange but I guess it will help!

Interesting...I guess it depends on the vet then. I would want to do a fecal however just to be sure and you can probably just drop off a fecal for a test.

Sorry to take so long to catch up, but she sounds like she's well on her way to a full recovery. At least the vet checked again and found the pinworms.
You're over the worst of it now, and she'll be a binky bunny in no time.
