Mango had developed an upper respiratory infection along with his mobility problem - he stopped eating yesterday.
I took him into the vet today and we decided it was best to not let him suffer any longer Even treating the URI was not going to help his bigger problem - he was basically only able to crab walk around and was not moving at all and he was getting more frail.
I think it was best to let him go before he got worse in any way. It was already difficult knowing he was having problems with the arthritis and I have been preparing myself for this - I cried more than I thought I would because I thought I was prepared, but I was still sad. |

I am so sorry, Sarita. You fought really hard to heal Mango and make sure he was as comfortable as possible. I commend you for not letting him suffer, though it must have been so difficult. It's never easy even if you know it's going to happen. Healing vibes to you. Binky Free Mango |

Sarita, I'm so sorry. There are no words I can use to express the sadness I'm feeling seeing this. I can barely see through the tears to type. But I went and started a group of candles. Just look for Mango. He is no longer in pain, and is looking down to you thanking you for all you did to help him. Bless you for having the courage to make that last decision. Hugs to you and binky free, Mango. http://www.gratefulness.org/candles...g&gi=Mango http://www.gratefulness.org/candles...d=14615351 |

Oh, no, Sarita I'm so sorry! I was just reading BB's response to your other thread and hoping he might pull out of it, but I have found myself bracing myself daily - and here it is. I know how upset you are about him. It's a terrible loss and you have been very brave over the past few weeks as you tried to help him and do what's best for your little guy. He binkies free now, and loves you always. {{{{{{{{{{Hugs}}}}}}}}}}} |

I am so sorry. I am holding back tears. I am new here and don't really know you or Mango, but I know how much all of our buns mean to all of us here. Making that decision is one of the most unselfish things we can do for our pets. Mango gave you years(?) of happiness and love, and in the end when he needed you more than ever, you gave him the gift he needed most. {{{{{{{hugs}}}}} |

I'm so sorry Sarita. It is so painful regardless if you try to prepare. It is such an extremely difficult thing to go through even when it is for the best. What you did was extrememly kind and he is free now. With all of the love and care he was given, I'm sure he felt so loved throughout and is free now from suffering. That has got to be the hardest gift to give i think and so huge hugs to you as i know this hurts. My thoughts will be with you during this time. |

Thank you for your sweet responses. I've had Mango for about 8 years and he was approximately 9 years old. I never intended to keep him forever and hoped to find him another forever home. However when he was young he began having severe bouts of stasis which we could never figure out what the cause was and later in life he had other issues. I became close to him because of his medical problems and appreciated his noisy behavior and his "bad" behavior. He really was the quitessential Dutch rabbit in my opinion, perfect markings and super super smart. I really loved him and loved the feisty for life this adorable rabbit had. He had originally been bought in a petstore and then released to the "wild" by his owner and the woman who rescued him rescued him from the mouth of a dog - he was a very young little rabbit. Mango had been through alot and really had a will to live. I loved him very much. |

Oh Sarita, I am so very sad to read this. I've been out of town and away from computers for 3 days and the first thing I did tonight was check the BB forum and saw this. You are so very brave to send him on before he he totally spiraled down. I wish I had had the courage to allow Lola to go like that. Poor Mango has the best bunny mom in the world and now he binkies like a youngster.
Binky Free Mango and lots of hugs and comfort for you, Sarita my friend
I will light a candle for the little guy.

I'm so sorry, Sarita... I haven't been on much lately and just saw this post. I hate to see anyone lose a bunny, but you're always such a wonderful support to everyone else, it especially saddens me to see your name up there at the Rainbrow Bridge forum. I don't know much about Mango, but I do know that any bunny who had the good fortune to have a home with you was a very lucky bunny. He must have had a wonderful life with you and gotten the very best care possible... and in the end you made the toughest decision any of us can have to make. It takes a lot of kindness and love to care for a bunny through their life, but sometimes the ultimate sacrifice is knowing when to let them go. You're in my thoughts and prayers. |

(((Binky free Mango))) It's so sad to hear of Mango's passing! You provided him with such an amazing home and life, he was a super lucky bunny and I know that in grief, this is hardly enough, but he lived a wonderful, long life with you. I hope we all are as blessed as you were to share our bunnies lives for so long, and that we have the courage to make such tough end of life decisions for our beloved buns. |
