I can't believe that my little sweet Ruffles is dead. He's been having some butt issues lately and I thought it was the lettuce I've been feeding him. This morning he was laying in his litterbox, and this afternoon, he just didn't perk up. I tried to feed him critical care, but it was too late. He died in my husband's arms. I'm totally bummed. My little lionhead will be lost without her. What should I expect from Daisy in the coming days? HOw much do they understand? They were so bonded. They were never apart from each other. I'm so sad for her. |

Did Daisy get a chance to see the body at all? Often that helps. She may get depressed, you will have to watch and make sure she eats and drinks, spend alot of time with her. She may want your company more than ever right now. RIP Ruffles, binky free across the Bridge! *hugs* |

I'm so sorry. Every rabbit reacts differently. I would give Daisy extra attention during this time. Hugs to you. |

I'm so sorry to hear about Ruffles. Lots of attention to Daisy, and if you're worried you can always bring her by the vet for a check up just to make sure she's OK. She'll seem off her feed for a while if she's grieving, so that's normal. Hugs to you, Daisy and the rest of your family. |

Thanks everyone. My husband made him a box and buried him in the yard. He also planted a tree and bought a little bunny statue to put there. He loved Ruffles more than anyone else. Ruffles was really a special bun, not an aggressive bone in his little body. I'm a little worried about Daisy. She doesn't eat much anymore and she's just really sad. I'm not sure what to do with her. Part of me wants to give her up to the rescue where she can be bonded to another bun. We both work and she's home a lot by herself. She doesn't seem happy, and at least with Ruffles, she had a mate. What is the right thing to do? She's really sad, and I'm not being dramatic, she's really lost without her mate. |

Hi Sandy
Just keeping things as routine as possible will help her. Your family and the routine is what she knows. Any other major changes so soon after losing Ruffles would be hard on everyone. At some point you might want to do a thorough clean and pack away things that most likely carry Ruffles scent. Another member (Sonn) who recently dealt with a grieving rabbit found that this helped some. Also, if you have friends with rabbits, perhaps arrange a get-together and see how Daisy does in the temporary company of another. Really, these are suggestions for you to gauge whether you think they're right for her. As Sarita said, every rabbit can react differently. I hope that in a little more time you'll see an improvement. Still sending healing wishes for you and Daisy! |

I agree, the loss of you and her beloved home would be even more devastating for her. A bunny sleeps most of the day, so she is not as lonely during your working hours as you may think. Just give her extra time to be with your family once you're home, extra attention and pets, and let her grieve for a while. She'll get better in a few weeks. If you want to, you can take her on dates if you think you would like another bunny companion for her in your home again. |

Im so sorry for your loss, may Ruffles run free over the rainbow bridge and watch over you as he enjoys his time in the meadow with alll of are beloved rabbits that RIP. So sorry to hear that, sometimes if you show the bonded bunny the body she or he may understand whats happend and not that Ruffles has abandoned/left her. Give her some cuddles and if you ever have that horrible feeling when it kicks in properly what happend, just think, Daisy feels the same. stay strong *hugs* |
