The first bunny I got was when I was 8.  Her name was Nibbles and she was a chocolate brown dwarf mix.  She was unspayed and lived for 11.5 years off of alfalfa pellets (we didn't know better back then!).  Nibbles went every where with me (my parents were divorced so there was a lot of moving back and forth and to the gparents), she even went to college with me!

Every year on her birthday, March 1st, I would give her a big huge salad with lettuce celery carrots and apple, set up in the shape of a giant carrot (carrots made up the log cabin triangle), I called it a "carrot cake".  Since her death, every year on her birthday (or the week of), I bake a human version of a carrot cake to celebrate her life.  My brother coined today "Nibbles Day".

Today she would have been 18.  I plan on making carrot cake cupcakes tonight and giving Arduina and Leo a little extra carrot.

I know some of your losses are much more recent than mine.  It took me 5 years to get over Nibbles' death, before I was ready for another bunny.  So take your time, and celebrate their life!

What a touching story! I read your post earlier this afternoon, and a few minutes ago saw that they had carrot cake in the cafeteria's dessert section, so I bought myself a slice . *raises cake* Here's to Nibbles!

Thank you for sharing your story, it's heartwarming. It took me almost 9 years to heal from my first bunny's passing to where I was ready for another, so I know that feeling of loss. It's gigantic. It's sweet you do something nice for yourself as well as your bunnies on Nibbles' anniversary each year.

Thank you all! Bunnies are something special, each with their own personality and spirit.
