I know this will be moved to the Support area shortly but I wanted to let you guys know that my diva Lola passed away yesterday morning from a severe blockage. She stopped eating Sunday and when the usual tummy massages, gas medicine and a hour on the messaging chair mat made no difference we went to the vet.

X-rays showed a huge solid impaction and gas pockets. Dr. Erving began standard treatments but immediately contacted other experts to be ready with other options incase she didn’t respond. By Tuesday things were pretty bleak but since Lola was still in the discomfort and not the suffering range, she wanted to try one last medication (can’t remember the name) that you rub in the ears. I was visiting before and after work and Tuesday night the vet techs were jumping up and down yelling We Have Pee! We Have Poop!

She was active and bossing everyone around and continued to pass small amounts of P/P Wednesday and we thought we had turned the corner.

I got there Thursday morning at 7:30 and Dr. Erving waved me on to ICU saying she had just made her rounds 20 minutes earlier and Lola was eating breakfast and had passed more poop. I walked in and found she had passed away inside her box. We were all in shock. Dr. Erving said it could have been her heart gave out from all the stress and bad way she was in. Since she was over 6 yrs old, her age was against her too.

It hurts terribly to lose her. I think the problem children always take the heart out of you. Since being voted out of the bunny room she was my personal buddy and demanded being out and about the house the minute I got home and drove Charlie mad teasing him. She loved going out in the back yard with me while I worked and would sit closeby to be able to properly disapprove. I had just bought her a new rug to put infront of the wood stove because that was HER place in cold weather.

I am so lucky to have a vet and staff that did so much to not only help Lola, but make her feel at home. They gave her the large kennel in ICU so her hidey box, blankets, stuffy and toys would all fit. I had told them about her early life where she was returned several times to the rescue and they understood that I didn’t want her to feel abandoned again and everybody made sure she didn’t get lonely. I can’t thank them enough.

Rest in peace my girl, we all miss you.

This is so sad. I loved Lola. she was one of the big BB characters. She was such a beauty too… and there seemed to be never a dull moment pertaining to her. I am sorry she is gone!
She may have had toxins and inflammation of the GI due to the blockage weakening her even more… A hault in the GI can lead to bacteria in the blocked mass to release toxins.

OMG kralspace, I just popped into the site and saw this. I am so very, very sorry for your loss. She was so beatiful!!!
I can’t believe what a generous and loving vet you were able to find for her (staff too). It can help to know that she got the best care possible and everyone did all they could. It must have been her time.

thanks guys, it’s good to have a place where people understand bunnies are loved.

Charlie and Lola had started to be friendlier with each other since I pushed their condos close together. I was hoping they would be able to bond eventually. It had progressed to the point where each would go jump on a perch next to the other’s condo and just hang out close together without all the charging and scuffling.

Poor Charlie has been looking for her when I let him out at night. Before we buried her last night, we gave him a chance to sniff and take a look, but he didn’t want to get too close. She had that hospital, medicine smell about he and her body was very cold (they kept her until I could get off work). I left her condo gate open and he spent the evening investigating every inch, then jump out and check under it before going back. He finally went back to his.

I guess my next move is to try bonding him with the trio. Since Pringles likes her boy toys he may fit in better than Lola did.

She lived only a few feet away from my computer, it’s going to be lonely working there at night now.

Hugs to you Kathy. Lola will definitely be missed. I loved Lola’s fierceness – it made her very special. I totally understand how you feel about Lola having fostered her – she was a great little rabbit who was lucky to have found a home with someone who cares as much as you do.

I will light a candle for Lola to help her cross the bridge.

I am so so sorry She was a beautiful girl, and she probably purposefully got voted out of the bunny room so she could have you all to herself.

Where did Lola come from? What was her story?

I took Daisy dating to the North Texas Rabbit Sanctuary where we met Lola. Sarita had been fostering her for a while and knew more about her story. One of the other ladies told me she had been adopted a couple of times before but returned pretty quickly.

People probably took one look at that plushie white fur and beautiful blue eyes and thought she was cuddly *how wrong is THAT*. She was downright aggressive at first and would run from across the room to jump on the couch and try to bite me and savage the towel I would be holding. She calmed down over time and being with Daisy but always had a chip on her shoulder. Reminded me of people who are pushed around and bullied and want to hurt someone before they get hurt again.

She was so chunky she was square shaped, over 7.5 lbs. But from the first day she’d run and try to climb and jump up on things (usually with blood in her eyes) and gradually slimmed down over time to 4.6 lbs. She may have gotten mad because I’d laugh at the way her legs would be splayed way out and her tummy dragging the floor. Lola got to where she could jump and do a decent binky though.

Sounds like Lola came to you as the result of a series of unfortunate events (with the exception of staying with Sarita). Ironic how visual appeal can really work against you sometimes. People only wanting you for the looks, like the failed adoptive homes wanted Lola.

                                              I’m so sorry to see this post, Kathy. The tears just won’t stop coming. ;_;
But reading your descriptions of Lola (and all your bunnies) and knowing you, I know she had such a wonderful life with you. And so much love. The ones who show the most disapproval are the ones who are often the most content, despite their outward appearances…it’s all a big front, really. Just ask Pip.
I think my most fond memory of her is in front of the wood stove. I still can’t believe how much she enjoyed being so close to it (and yet miraculously never caught fire). It was so sweet and unique.
In those still moments when you’re at your PC and it’s feeling a bit quiet, it will be the best time to tune into that love which is still washing back over the bridge to you from Lola.
Binky free Lola! Be your mum’s angel-bunny on her shoulder.

Kathy, I’m so sorry to be reading this. It may be a small blessing that she passed peacefully, given she seemed to be feeling better and then was just gone.

At the risk of sounding corny, it’s like Lola reached her full potential in your home. Especially these last months with her weight loss and bonding with you. She was really given the freedom to be her sassy self with you.
