To stop everyone before they start…. NOT HOUSING THEM TOGETHER!!!!

So I’ve been trying to adopt a rabbit to bond with my spayed female lop mix. There aren’t many males in the area to adopt and I’m striking out at the places that do have males.  I’m going to try adopting at another place near my parents house but if that fails, I’m thinking a guinea or two.

Has anyone had experience with this?  My rabbit isn’t aggressive and likes attention.  Since they would be housed separately, I feel like I should get two guineas so that the guineas have company in their cage.  My bunny is free roam so they could interact while I supervise the guineas being out of the cage.  Also, anyone that may have experience, how much do the guineas add to odor?  I manage the rabbit odor pretty well with changing litter.  If I keep up with the guinea litter should it be too much worse?

Still hoping an adoption can happen for another bunny but, need to research plan b.

        Edit: missing words

What’s wrong with a girl rabbit to go with your girl?

I’ve heard that same sex pairs don’t work as often but if I find a suitable match sure why not. Waiting to hear back on my adoption application I’ll keep ya posted.

I have a wonderful pair of girls, and working on a pair of boys. So don’t count it out

Awesome! I’m just waiting to hear if they’ll accept me as a “responsible adult” as I’m a month shy of their 22 yr old requirement. Hopefully if they see the level of care and attention I give my rabbit and let me adopt anyways. I don’t have any preference on sex as long as they make a good pair. Thanks for all the info

Do they let you take your bun there? Your best bet is to let your bun pick out a friend, boy or girl.

While I’ve heard of success stories with bunnies and gpigs, I’ve also heard that rabbits can seriously injure a gpig.

Same sex pairs absolutely can be bonded as well as a boy/girl pair as long as you have the right match. That goes for any pair.

I would keep trying for a bunny and do like LBJ10 suggests, let bunny pick the friend.

Ya I’m pretty sure they do allow ‘speed dating’ of sorts. I’ll keep you guys posted should be hearing back in the next day or so.

SUCCESS!!!!!!!! They approved me. They don’t normally adopt to students under 22 but I think they saw the rabbit would have a good consistent home. I’m going to see three males in a couple of weeks to pick out a good match. They have three mini lops to match to my female lop. I’m going to post a picture of her in another thread to get a guess on what breed she is, can’t tell if holland or mini.

Can’t wait to start the bonding process and add a new bunny to the family. I love projects so I’m kind of excited to work on the bonding. I’ll probably start a new thread once I adopt the guy, my family is sick of hearing about my rabbit but I know you guys don’t mind.

                          Thanks for all the info!

No, we certainly don’t mind hearing about rabbits.

Great news that you are approved. Good luck with the bunny dates.

                                If she’s over 2 1/2 lbs she’s a mini
I have 2 girls who are bonded btw, it was a challenge but I don’t know if it was better or worse than male to female.
Can’t wait to see some pics!
