im writing for my lop baby to be born witch is any day now and i was wondering if i decide to get 2 one for each of my boys (there really for me ) what sex should they be. if its from the same litter can i get 2 boys, or 2 females, or a male and a female or if i decide to get a lion head and a lop around the same age just a few days apart can i get the same sex or must it be opposites?????

Well first, bunnies don’t mature until around 6 months usually later so if you got two when you got them you wouldn’t be able to sex them properly. My advice is start with one. I almost got two and I know it’s a horrible thing to say but I’m glad I got one. I was completely new to rabbits as pets and it was pretty overwhelming. Plus once they hit maturity their “litter bond” will break and you’d have to keep them completely separated and everything. And it’s an even bigger mess if you got a boy and girl and didn’t know it- then you’d have way more bunnies than you bargained for.

Personally, I’m waiting until Bunjamin is fixed and matured completely then if I have the income and time, I’ll let him pick a buddy

I would also recommend one. Being littermates is of no benefit since once maturity is reached, they will be like strangers anyways. If you wanted to get a second later on you can, after the first is spay/neutered.

On another note: single bunnies are sometimes MORE social with family members, whereas a bonded pair tend to “do their own thing”. If you want the rabbit to bond more strongly to you and the kids, I would just get one. As I said, you can always get a second later on (in a year or two).

I think that’s a good idea. There are so many rescues that have adult, spay/neutered buns and you can look for a second there if/when the time is right.

You’ll quickly realize that baby bunnies are messy, destructive, and sometimes aggressive/territorial until they are altered. You probably wouldn’t want to deal with that times two!

Good plan! You’ll thank me once you see that while a baby bun is oh so cute and awesome, they also are quite a bit of work!

Plus two babies equals double the amount of spay/neuter costs.
