It’s been a little warm in SoCal and I think it has made Lola go through another round of shedding.  The below is just 5 minutes of using the Furminator – and I’ve had to do it every other night.  It’s bad.  Although, I think her medium-length coat is easier to manage than the short hair buns…that short stuff is AWFUL to deal with and the Furminator will not work on the foster bun I have…

Basically, we are drowning in bun hair here…it’s in our food, it’s in our contacts, it’s clogging our vacuum, it’s covering the bookshelf instead of dust, it’s floating in the fish tank, it’s clogging the drains, it’s in the vent of the dryer….it’s EVERYWHERE!

It’s like a war zone….(notice the treats in the left hand corner for coercion…)

        Mom says I’m not a lop-lionhead….I’m a “Mufasa”…it’s a new breed of bun.

Just showing off my curly, long mustache…

Ha yeah, Monkey and Squirrel are having fur wars it seems, who can leave the most hair around the house. It’s crazy!

It seems as if Skipper is always going through a shed! The poor girl never stops shedding. I love Lola’s mohawk so cute! (Sorry to get off topic but how is the bonding going? Did Lola take to the new bun?)

Oh, the mohawk. I used to trim it but it’s growing at an exponential rate so I’ve given up.

The bonding has ended – Lola just doesn’t seem meant to have a friend. It has been over a month and we were unable to do a bonding session that lasted over 10 minutes (and never unsupervised) because Lola is just WAY agressive with the foster bun. I was really nervous she was going to seriously injure him because she has about 2 pounds on him and just showed no mercy when it came to showing him who’s boss. I’m sad that we can’t give a bun a home but ultimately it was her choice and decision – and she clearly wants to be a single bun for now. Maybe we’ll try again in a few years when she gets into her adult years but for now she is not having any of it.

Cute Mohawk :3 mimzy isn’t doing too bad right now. It’s mostly only when I’m vaccuming/sweeping is when I get most of it. Last month I think I was sweeping up a ton of it!! But whenever I brush or pluck her, nothing comes out -.- I don’t know if that has to her with her still being young?

Oooooohhhhh….Lola is beautiful! I love her speckled colors!
Sorry to hear she’s not interested in being bonded. Some buns are like that.

Yup…Mimzy is in perpetual molt but….well you can see for yourself how bad his back is:

I take five other bunnies off him every night and despair of it ever growing back right. He just doesn’t eat enough to finish the molt. :'(

Oh, my….that’s quite a shed Mimzy has going on. Olivia molts the same way. Bindi usually just molts in chunks all over.

I’m sorry bmt that the bonding has ended. =[ You never know something might cause them to bond later on or you’ll find a little boy who she likes more.

Ooh, ooh, me! I’m in NorCal and we’ve been having the same heat wave up here too… it’s probably not been as hot (mid 70s-80s) but I’ve noticed the recent upsurge in bunny hair… it’s been especially stressful because Sir Rupert doesn’t like to stay still for his grooming for long, and using the small animal furminator (the pink one) takes forEVER. I’m at my wits’ end trying to figure out a good way to groom him. I usually pet – brush – pet – brush, but this is extremely slow and tiring for me, and Rupert then gets impatient. I don’t want to put him on the kitchen counter because of rabbit hair in food, and there aren’t any good other counter/high surfaces in my house, so I’ve been trying to do spurts of brushing here and there with both the furminator and the hairbuster.

If anyone has a trick to make them sit down and just take the brushing I’m all ears! Especially a good way to get the legs and belly.

Oh my Mimz! That IS a crazy shed! I almost wish Lola would shed like that in a “pattern” – instead it’s a giant cloud of hair just flying from every direction! I wish I could just see where exactly she was shedding so I could “pluck” but it’s ALL over.

Aylnine – The Furminator does take FOREVER. And Lola hates (HATES!) it. With this shed I’ve been making my boyfriend sit with me on the floor while I brush her with treats in his hand so he can distract her with them. After she is finished with a treat he “smooshes” down her head gently – she loves to go in the flat bunny position and have her nose and ears rubbed so it helps to calm her down if he “smooshes” and rubs her while I am brushing her at the same time. Just reading that makes it sound silly but I swear 4 hands are better than 2. Also, Lola loves the vacuum brush attachment – I use it to clean her cage and she will jump to what ever level I’m vacuuming and try to shove her little nose up in it. It’s a cheaper vacuum so the suction isn’t that great but it works perfectly to groom her little bum. This definitely doesn’t work for every bun though because I wouldn’t dare try it with our foster bun because he is *petrified* of the vacuum. I also wouldn’t try it with a high powered vacuum just for safety reasons. I think Lola is just weird.

Powder is permashedding, so I have it coating my in take fans on my PC, it’s all over his floor, I sweep it up constantly and yeah… it’s his permanent state. But a real molt where he has chunks of fur coming off, no he hasn’t done one of those in a while. It’s too cold here atm.

bmt: Hahaha~ Yeah, Sir Rupert is afraid of the hand vacuum, which I use to clean his flooring sometimes. It’s already really low power and fairly quiet but he just doesn’t want any of it lol. I’ve been trying to get my friends/family to help out with the grooming but most of the time no one is around and Rupert is getting really furry and scruffy, so I really have to figure something out that I can do myself. Eeks…

We’re pretty much done. The brilliant thing about Kahlua is she hardly sheds; she constantly grows her fur and I shave her, but shed she does not. But Rupert constantly sheds-it’s bonkers. In Spring and Fall he concentrates harder so that he can produce enough fur to clothe 2 or 3 naked bunnies. It’s terrible-fur is absolutely everywhere-with brushing everyday I still need to vacuum his pen every day. But we’re in the clear, he’s down to his normal threshold of regular insane amounts of fur
