I just rescued 2 , 6 month old female Angora’s and am unsure what would be the best food to feed them. I have read that Angora’s need a higher protein food. My other rabbits are eating Zupreem Timothy hay based food so I just have been giving them some of that food. All of my other rabbits I fed Timothy hay based pellets when I got them as babies and they grew fine but with the Angora’s should I be feeding them alfalfa based or would some alfalfa hay be fine as long as they are a good weight? The protein in the Zupreem food is only 14% and I had read somewhere they needed 18-21% protein but I have yet to see a food with that much protein. Would appreciate any help.

I wouldn’t worry about protein content at all-most hay is way higher than is required-protein isn’t a concern in a diet unless the diet is lacking in calories-as a guideline. Just feed mostly hay, lost of veggies, and pellets as a supplement-pellets being a high quality timothy based variety.

I’ve got angoras too and often add a pinch of rolled oats and a few black sunflower seeds to their pellets at night to help boost the protein for their fibre growth. Also I’ve discovered from other angora owners and breeders that 1/8 of a cup of pellets is not enough, I know my two get roughly 2/3 of a cup of pellets a day and they’re both not fat
