I would love some ideas for healthy treats for my rabbit. I've had Rex for 2 years (he is 4 yrs old). He is very prone to GI Stasis, due to heavy molts (which we are doing everything to resolve!). As a result, we are a no treat household. I tried to bake him rabbit cookies, but he wouldn't touch them. He is allowed carrots as a treat when he is not molting. What would be a good treat during molting time (has to have very limited sugar and be high in fiber)? He LOVES his papaya vitamins and the new Oxbow digestive supplements, so he thinks he is getting treats. I would love some more options though. I'm willing to cook, if you have good recipes!

Have you tried alfalfa hay? Since your bun is prone to GI stasis, the hay will help to keep the digestive system moving. Though be sure to feed sparingly since alfalfa hay is high in fat and adult buns can get obese if fed too much. |

My buns eats a crazy amount of hay a day (Botanical and Orchard Grass). I was hoping for some kind of recipe for a treat or maybe even something that I can buy. I'm just so hesitant when I read some of the labels of stuff that is out there. |

TH- I have LOADS of bunny cookie recipes!!! I have them all saved in draft form in my email. I can email them to you if you feel comfortable with msging me your email addy. When I got my Toby through reading on BB forums I realized how unsafe and unhealthy stuff at the pet store is that I was buying. I hadn't fed my dear sweet Toby anything like that yet, and didn't want to ever. I found 2 dozen recipes if not more. I tried out one the first week I got Toby and baked him some fresh cookies. He goes BONKERS for them!!! He loves them even MORE than a willow ball and that is saying a LOT! I give him a cookie every night when I put him to bed. hehe And Today he got an extra one for letting me trim all his little toe nails without fussing one bit. If you want I can email you all the recipes I compiled or I can just post the one recipe that I used on here for you. Just let me know what you feel more comfortable with and I am happy to help! |

Cristina-- Sent! Thanks!! I tried to look up cookie recipes and I got one that I tried. a. Rex didn't like it. b. The website gave my laptop a horrible virus So, now I'm too scared to do another search! My brother-in-law is a Best Buy "Geek", so he fixed it for me |

I make bunny treats sometimes, but never from a recipe...it changes every time based on what I have on hand. Crushed pellets with some cut up fruit/veggies and juice added, baked for a long time on low heat. If it's too soggy, add more pellets...if it's too dry add more juice. Play around with different ingredients and see what your bunny likes! |

Mine loves mint, but I put it in his salad especially during molting time (supposed to help calm an upset stomach). I'll try those Oxbow cookies. I bet he would like a Veggie blended one. My first rabbit LOVED flowers. I didn't know about this site until she was older, so I didn't know not to share the flowers my hubby got me I know better with this rabbit, so he hasn't had any. I can definitely try buying it from BB instead! |

I feed a lot of pellets as treats. Mine get super excited for their pellets and don't seem to care that they're part of a normal meal. I keep a little dish of them in the living room so I can use them as treats. |

I love the pellet treat idea! My buns goes crazy for his breakfast and dinner pellets (he eats them so quickly, I spread it out into two meals). Plus, that is a nice, cheap treat that is always on hand |

Did you try any recipes??? I can always make you up a batch of cookies and mail them to you for your little bun. I've gotta bake a BIG batch tomorrow for my boys. We rescued a bun over the weekend so now I have THREE boys! lol I felt so bad that I didn't have a cookie to give them when they went to bed tonight. haha But they will be back in business tomorrow! |

Pellets are also awesome for training because they're healthy and tiny - you can give a lot quickly without slowing down the training. The much prefer craisins to pellets, but only get about one a day (usually for going back to their cage in the morning). |
