  I attempted to do my bunnies nails yesterday. They are a little long, not unusually so though. When i tried to do his bottom paw, i noticed that one was twisted. It looks almost upside down. I tried to trim it but got scared that he would flinch or something. What is going on? My friend is coming over to hold the bunny so I can get a better look. He’s hopping around and happy~ doesn’t look in pain.

  I would first compare it to the nail in the same spot on the other foot. It could be a nail that they have which is set back from the front toes. If it looks the same I’d say that was it. But if it’s twisted, there may be something wrong or it may have been pulled on something prior to today and not back to normal. The problem could also be that he will catch it again on something and do more serious damage. Can you just call your vet and describe it? Or email with a photo? I’m thinking it might be able to be bandaged for a time so it grows back normally without harm, but not sure that would be the appropriate treatment.

  Apparently this nail is now growing upside down. It’s insane.

  did you ask your vet about it? A vet will do a basic nail trim for about $10, so it would be worth it to me to bring him in for a trim, and she’ll see the strange nail immediately. Then ask if it’s normal, ok, or if something is wrong. It’s been several weeks since your first post, so he probably is ready for a new trim anyway.
