Hey everyone hope all is well for you guys and girls. Binky has an appointment for Wednesday morning to be checked out because I noticed the other day a wee bit of snot from his nose. He also always has eye boogers in his right eye but from what i understand that can be normal for dwarf and/or long haired buns. So i was wondering what you all thought it could be,i was reading up on pasteurella (snuffles). I really hope its not that,or if it is, we caught it early enough. Sounds like a nasty disease for some buns. So far he is still eating, drinking, playing, pooping, peeing etc lol. I guess he is feeling fine then eh? I know thats not reason enough to think hes okay. We were supposed to go Friday but the vet canceled because she had an emergency and next opening wasnt until this Wednesday. So hopefully we still caught whatever it is in time. Also, should take my girl in as well? Whether to make sure shes not sick too,or just for Binkys moral support? She has not shown any signs of whatever this is, and i pray she doesnt, but they do live side by side so she could very well pick it up right? I hope they dont tell me move Binky away from her to somewhere by himself, cause thats not really possible here, we dont have room to build another cage lol. Plus i cant leave him somewhere our cat sweetie can get to him,as Binks is scared of him and Sweetie knows it so he messes with him. Well tries too,but i dont allow it i chase him off before he can do anything. I read that snuffles can be brought on by stress, so i was wondering if maybe the cat stressed him out so much to make him sick. I dunno. I hope not lol! I dont really wanna have to consider rehoming any of my pets. I just make sure Sweetie is downstairs or in my moms room so he cant bug Binkster. Rascal on the other hand can handle herself with the cats, she chases them off. Cats are scared of her! Guess she has to teach him how to do that lol. Anywho, just wanted to know whatchas thought of this situation what might happen is this is what it is. thanks for reading!

My bunny was sneezing and had the wet nose too, and when I read about Pasteurella it freaked me out and I took him to the vet the next day, he needed to be checked up anyway…the vet said he is fine, might be a litter thing (if you have changed kinds of litter.) Lungs checked out fine, so yeah hope youre not freaking out too much, my vet said a lil wetness around the nose was normal. As long as he is still eating, drinking and being happy as normal things should check out fine!

Aww cute bunny! I love when they stand up lol. Nah im not freaking out a whole lot. I think he is fine, but i still wanna see what they say about it. Litter hasnt changed, same stuff hes been on since hes been here with me. My sister had him on some other kinda stuff when she had him, dunno what. So maybe it is,hmmm. I always put hay in the litter boxes as well. We shall see i guess. Thats what i figured since hes still doing regular bunny stuff, but ya never know right? Buns can hide symptoms quite well ive learned. i rather be safe then sorry lol! This vet is really good with buns, so im sure they will tell me the right thing to do for him if anything. Thanks Floppy!

RascalnBinks.   I’m sorry to hear about Binky’s runny eyes and nose.   I know many times people freak out about snuffles, but there really are so many other treatable infections that can result in runny eyes and nose that it’s not worth getting yourself worked up about.  You are doing the right thing by taking him to the vet, and I do think it’s a good idea to bring your girl too at least just for the ride because many times bunnies will unbond or get into a tussle, when ONE comes back smelling like the vets office.  If they both go, they can get comfort from each other and one won’t smell funny to the other because they were there together.

Many times if one already has something that is contagious, they will just treat both, because by the time one may show symptoms, the other may be recovering, and then depending on what it is it can cyle all over again.  So many vets just find it better to treat both IF it’s contagious even if the other bunny is not exhibiting symptoms. .   Plus, healing happens faster with a companion near their side.

Just make sure he’s eating and pooping and energy level stays up, and let us know what the vet says on Wednesday.

Floppy – Some bunnies are sensitive to hay – if it’s dusty or the finer particles haven’t been shaken out.   Bunny noses may be just slightly, really slightly wet, but for the most part they are dry unless they’ve just sneezed or they just finished drinking out crock.

Rucy sometimes gets wet eyes, nose and mouth because she has teeth issues and a blocked tear duct from surgery scar tissue, but she’s healthy.

When your vet did a check, did s/he test the actual mucous, or what did s/he do during the exam?

How is she doing today?  Hope all is okay!

Oh he is doing fine, the vet checked out his lungs, nose the whole deal, he didnt take any samples of the muscus but said that if he was sneezing got worse to bring him back in, but he has been doing fine. I actually changed the litter to Yesterdays News (which is awesome!) and also changed the Timothy Hay that I used which was Kaytee to Oxbow (which is way better also!!!) so he has been doing just fine!

Thanks Binkybunny. Yah im not too worried about it. Like i said he is still doing all normal bunny stuff lol. Allright Ill take both to the vet, next q,same carrier or different? I was gonna try them in one (ya know the forced snuggle bonding technique) but take two just in case. My mom is coming with so she can sit in the back with them to watch and break em up if any fights occur, which i hope doesnt. Thats good to hear buns heal faster with a friend. I havent tried bonding them yet outta cage,so would that still be ok to stick em in the same carrier? i dunno, hope ya read this before the morning lol so i know what i should do. Well those products below are tempting me to see what else ya got so im gonna go take a looksie. Thanks again and i will let you know what the vet says.

Well we got to the vet and she wasnt sure what was wrong if anything. She asked all kinds of questions, any enviromental changes, food etc. I said nope nope and nope. She didnt suspect pastuerella which is good. She checked his teeth from what she could see they looked fine, they are getting a new tool in a couple weeks so i gotta take him back so she can his back teeth. Also they may want to do xrays if he doesnt get better. I have antibiotics and eye drops for the next 10 days (this should be fun giving him!) and go from there. I just wanted to let yas know what happened.

Hi! Floppy – your bun is SO cute!! And RascalnBinks – I’m glad to hear the vet didn’t suspect pasturella. I had two foster bunnies with pasturella, and they were on Bactrum for awhile. It got so bad for the two of them that sometimes they would have sneezing fits of 30-40 sneezes, and wheezing and everything – so its always a good idea to get a snuffle checked early on! These two happened to be living outside when they got the sickness, so they got much worse than an indoor bunny normally would (thats why I took them in). If you notice your bun having any trouble breathing from a stuffed nose, you can soak a washcloth in hot water, and hold it near the bunny’s nose to let the bunny inhale the steam which can break up some of the mucuous. Good job on getting your bunny to the vet so fast!!

Every time I see the title of this thread, I can’t help but laugh at the phrase “nasal boogers”… Just the thought of “Where else would there be boogers coming from??” is amusing to me. I’m not sure I’d even want to know the answer.

RascalnBinks – Sounds like you now have a thorough vet! That’s great. I’m glad to hear that your bunny is feeling okay though!
I was going to say that’s great to do a car ride bondng on the way. I used to do that with Bailey and Rucy. That’s actually a good method. Check out my bonding journals in the Bunny Info section to see what we did. (I ended up stopping it because both of my girls have health issues that are compromised during stress, and I found that bonding was just making it worse, but you can see that I took them on car rides with their carrier – though usually in the car, I’d bring their litterbox and they’d huddle together in that. That way I could pet them while my husband drove.

What did you end up doing?

                            Keep us updated!

Lol Rachel! Well he has eye boogers or goobers to. I know after i posted it i was like maybe i should change the title…ah well too late! Nah i didnt put em together in the same carrier, i had my mom with me and she kinda freaks out at little things so i need someone more calm to help me with that. Mom doesnt drive so that doesnt work either! One of these days when my sister is off or my dad i might try it so i can sit with them. Soon as i put Binks carrier back in facing Rascals,he went right to the door (as did she) to see her. Only issue i have now is giving him his meds lol! Not so easy i tell ya. These buns are smart lil critters. I have both liquid and pills. Problem is, i cant catch the little guy! He runs off so quick and he hates being held at all. So makes it tough! i did though crush up one of the pills put it inside a treat and he ate it. Hope he doesnt figure out my trick so it keeps working! It was really hard to do the eye stuff, ever try to keep a buns eye open when he knows ya gonna put something in it? He was mad at me after all that (took an hour to do it all) so he went back in his cage and pouted a bit to his gf. Poor guy. Rascal came out for a bit,but she preffered to stay up top next to her bf. How sweet. Thanks everyone for all your advice i appreciate it! Yup i will keep yas updated too. Vet is gonna call in 10 days to see how he is doing and if we should do anything else. So im keeping my paws(yes i said paws lol!) crossed that it does its job! Ttyl!

Hi RascalnBinks!  I am new to the House Rabbit Forum.  I have three bunnies and swear by Yesterday’s News Litter – Original, Unscented.  It is made completely from recycled newspaper.  There is very little if any dust or airborne particles that could aggrevate little noses or respiratory systems.  It can be purchased at Petsmart or Petsupermarket.  Sprocket, my English Angora, is easily bothered by allergans, as well as my baby, little Periwinkle.  Periwinkle is an American Fuzzy Lop.  I have also found they will have moist noses with a few little snorts here and there when they forage thru their hay looking for choice morsels. . . Lucious Lagomorphs!
