Pascal is in stasis. I cleaned his trays thoroughly Thursday morning before work, On Thursday night  I noticed a complete absence of poop and pee. It was too late for a vet as our emergency vet expects cash up front which I didn’t have. I applied tummy massages and supplied a huge wet salad as he was still eating normally but his water consumption was down. Friday morning I was rewarded with a peed in hay tray containing a pile of very small irregular poops.

Decided to head for work and make it a half day so I could come back early and check him.

Arrived home and no more poop only minimal pee but all the food was eaten.

Raced Pascal to the vet where it was found that his bladder was normal, there was no evidence of blockage but his temperature was elevated and he was slightly dehydrated.

Sub Q’s were administered as was Baytril and Metacam. At home medications are .25 ml baytril twice daily for 5 days and .2 ml Metacam once daily also for 5 days.

Still eating normally but water intake is still only half of normal, dark small size poops in a tidy pile morning and evening (I rub his tummy when I give him his meds) he is peeing but obviously that is reduced too…

Any idea’s when normal poop should resume or any underlying issue’s I should look for ?… It’s amazing how your brain turns to complete poop when it’s your own bunny.

Roberta, I wish I knew what to tell you. The only thing I can think of is sub Q fluids since that’s what brought Kieko around and kept her peeing. I guess you could syringe water as well. Hope things turn around quickly.

It is a very good sign that he is still eating and drinking some. If you can keep that up, hopefully he will get back to normal in no time. Sounds like you are doing everything you can.

So far not much has changed. No improvement but no decline. He is pooping about twice a day still smallish and dark, slightly irregular poops. Still peeing but not in the normal volume and still not drinking any where near what he use to.

I don’t know if this helps, but Kieko never went back to her old “normal” after she had a bout with stasis. Her poops have stayed much smaller (but increased alot in qty), she doesn’t drink anywhere near what she used to (but her mouth is nice and moist), and she doesn’t eat as much hay as she used to. She can pack away a salad though. Our exotics vet says she’s fine and its been 8 months.

                                How is he doing today?

Pretty much the same, eating his salads but not drinking anywhere near enough. To make matters worse I share a common wall with my neighbour who had a wall cassette AC put in yesterday so there would have been hammering, drilling and grinding half the day right next to where Pascals cage is. Had some poop last night but very little this morning. He is only peeing in the litter tray in his cage. I’m wondering if its possible to bring him into work?

My first thought is by all means take him to work. My second thought, would being in a strange place stress him? Sounds like a day off would help!

(((((((Pascal)))))) It’s difficult to know if a new place would stress him out more than being alone, but if he’s with you maybe you can give him CC often to get his li’l tummy working? I know stress is bad but getting food into a bunny is also important. It’s not at all funny or easy though. I found Yohio takes his CC much better from a very small syringe (0,5 ml) than from the big one the vet gave me (5 ml). With the big syringe he fights and gets a lot of cc on his breast. It’s tedious to give him 20 syringes but since all of it goes into him, it’s worth it. I don’t know what your workplace is like, if it’s a lot of people and noises etc. Taking the day off would of course be ideal but that’s not always possible.

We had construction work going on outside my house all day yesterday and all I could think of was of course that they were stressing Yohio out. It’s much worse when it’s next door though.

I’ve told Yohio there’s a fellow bunny called Pascal on the other side of the world who’s going through the same as he is.

About to try some Critta Care (Aussie Brand of CC) He still has another day of meds and is eating his salads well but I haven’t seen him eat any significant amounts of hay. Should I take away his pellets ? Been trying to get cranberry juice to go in his water but won’t be near anywhere I can get some till the weekend. The draw backs of working in a rural area away from the city.

If the CC has a positive effect I will be taking him to work. If the accounts girls can bring their kids in when they are off school for pupil free days etc a bunny in a large carrier is nothing plus I have my own office.

I once spent a day with a stray kitten sleeping in my in tray after it was nearly flattened by a tractor running fro a hungry feral fox. One of the nursery hands decided she would take him home but had no where safe for him to be during the day.

Not today, it gets hectic in my office on a Thursday… I gave him some CC and we got double poops last night. Not much this morning but I found a hidden patch not far from his vege dish. Doing a full play area clean again tonight so I can be positive if any poop stash has been left in the last 12 hrs.

Oh, Roberta =) Seems like Pascal and Yohio have more than their stomach issues in common.

I too have adopted the You are going eat this if it kills me-attitude.

I read the instructions of the CC-sachet today, it says 3 tablespoons of CC mixed with water per kilogram bunny per serving. Has anyone ever fed a bunny that much CC? How big are their stomachs?

I think they allow for the amount we end up wearing, swallowing or scraping off the walls.

But he does take his Cc-mix like a splendid boy, from the small syringe. The big syringe caused major lip-pursing, but with the small one he actually seems to look for more when I’m re-filling it.

Poor Pascal, having his nostril mistaken for his mouth! I’m so glad I’ve had help feeding Y these last 2 days because it’s certainly not super-easy to do it alone.

It won’t save your walls or floors, but it may save your clothes??? ha ha ha…..

                                                                                Yohio is a lot better!

JR, I had to make the CC just thick enough to go in the syringe, but the tip of the big syringe (the one the vet gave me) was even narrower than the 0,5 syringe (I’ve sawed the tip off of that one) so i couldn’t get a thicker mixture into that one either. Adding pumpkin made the slush thicker but still liquid enough to get into the syringe. I’ve given him 30 syringes per meal and there was very little spilling. With the big syringe I don’t know how much he actually ate because there was CC all over the place.

The antibiotics course is finished and I am going to hold off the pain meds for a day in case they are impacting on his kidneys. Will give him a feed of plain CC shortly and keep it more liquid, he seemed to take it better that way.
